“Each day, each smile, each kick, and squeal is a blessing,” Megan Hymer, Ben’s mother.
Ben Hymer is only four months old, but has already gone through open heart surgery and many other medical procedures to keep his little body fighting. The Oklahoma CrossFit community is coming together to help the Hymer family with the heavy financial burden that comes attached to all of these procedures, so that they have time to focus on baby Ben, and heal as a family. We ask that you too consider making a financial donation for Ben.
--Background on Ben’s conditions—
Before Ben was born, he was diagnosed with both ventriculomegaly and a heart condition. Ventriculomegalyis a condition where enlarged ventricles in the brain can inhibit the development of the brain, and could cause mild to severe developmental and physical delays. The Hymer’s are still working with doctors to figure out what they can expect for Ben’s development.
As for the heart condition, Ben had open heart surgery shortly after birth to reconstruct his aortic archway. Unfortunately, follow-ups showed the reconstructed part of his aortic archway started narrowing again. This meant more procedures until doctors could find something that worked. Now, Ben is dealing with another narrowing, this time in the aorta to the kidney. Doctors are currently deciding how to best deal with this new issue.
Ben, daddy Drew, mommy Megan, and brother Max will be dealing with this long series of health issues for the foreseeable future, but they are all fighters, and we want to stand with them as they brave these heart-wrenching challenges. We ask that you consider making a monetary donation to help baby Ben keep fighting for his life.
