Bharathi Anbu Illam Fundraiser

Dear friends and family,
As a result of a 26-year civil war in Sri Lanka between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil Eelam, a vast majority of the Tamil population were displaced and separated from their loved ones. This fundraising campaign is aimed to help Bharathi Anbu Illam, an underprivileged children’s orphanage located in Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka.

This orphanage consists of two homes - Anbu illam (all boys) and Bharathi illam (all girls). Both homes are under one Administration, and consist of 400 children from ages 4-16 years old who have lost their parents to the civil war. Bharathi Anbu Illam requires financial support to assist with these children’s educational and day-to-day basic needs. As such, we are hoping to raise funds to help support the children in both homes.
As part of our campaign, we (Narththany Mahapooranam and Niruja Sivaguganathan) will be performing a Bharathanatya dance recital on August 5, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. All of the proceeds from this event will be going towards Bharathi Anbu illam. Narththany and I are both graduated Bharathanatya dancers and have completed our Bharathanatya Arangetram a few years ago in Toronto. I, Niruja Sivaguganathan, am in charge of withdrawing the funds raised on our GoFundMe page and will be transferring it to Parameswaran Kulasingam of Eelanadu, as I was introduced to this orphanage by him. Mr. Kulasingam has a registered bank account set up in Toronto where the funds, that I transfer to him, will be sent directly to the orphanage, which is registered by the Sri Lankan government. The process of transferring the funds to the orphanage is transparent and I will be a part of each step along the way. I will also receive a confirmation receipt and letter from the Administrator of the orphanage to ensure that the funds have been safely received.
Our goal throughout this entire campaign is to raise as much money as we can in order to help improve the lives of the children at Bharathi Anbu illam orphanage. Every dollar truly does count and we hope to achieve our goal by August 5, 2017.
