We are Beyond the Wall Vineyard and this is our story....
In 2012 we began a search for land that could work as a vineyard. In 2013 a good friend came across an unused acre of land in a walled garden in Northumberland and after chatting to the land owner we were granted custody of the walled garden. After a lot of clearing and working the land organically, we have created habitats and very much enhanced the biodiversity within the garden. This has attracted a greater range of wildlife which will not only help the vines but will make the project more ethical.
We are now in a position to begin planting more vines. We feel we now know the microclimate and soil well enough to progress with the dream - the most Northern vineyard in England.....
Through social media we have already gained lots of support and many useful contacts including Guest Wines and Stubrew who are very keen to be involved with the fermenting stages. This will give them greater diversity in the projects they're are producing and the skills they are learning.
So many people said we wouldn't get any grapes but with several tested vines, we have grapes so it's onwards and upwards! Below you can see one of the vines on a South facing wall in the vineyard.....this is certainly proof we can do this!
We want to get vines with any money raised from crowdfunding as soon as possible to get them in the land. All money raised will go in to the vineyard directly either buying vines, stakes, string and anything else directly related to the growing of vines.
We heard that a wise man once said that not many exciting, off the wall projects come without risk....however the reward is most definitely worth the risk. We are not rich, we don't have the money to fund the whole project ourselves which is why we have created this campaign. Many of our friends, colleagues and family have offered to donate to the vineyard so this has grown from that.
In advance we would like to thank everyone who has already helped progress the vineyard and to those have have supported us along the way - our friends and family.
