CFCW Bev Munro Scholarship in Radio & TV Broadcasting

Bev Munro passed away on April 4, 2018. To honor his legacy, a memorial scholarship is being set up to benefit students entering the Radio and TV Broadcasting program at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).

Bev started his broadcasting career as a radio broadcaster in Brandon Manitoba at CKX radio station. He continued his journey through Dauphin, Sudbury, Moose Jaw, Regina and finally settling in to his home for the next 30 years at CFCW in Camrose, Alberta. During this time Bev was honored to be named Mr DJ USA in 1959 through the radio station of WSM in Nashville. In 2002 he was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.

Not only was Bev known far and wide for his deep DJ voice, his daily knee slappers, his mystery artist request line and his ongoing love of everything country, Bev also enjoyed a successful singing and recording career which included hit songs such as Hello Operator and Baby Sitting With The Blues.

After retiring from CFCW in 1993, Bev continued to connect with his Alberta fans through touring with the Alberta Country Music Legends. He continued weekly Tuesday night performances at the Nova Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta right up until a few weeks before his passing.

Bev’s family and all of his close music friends wish to send a special thanks out to all of his many fans for not only the well wishes during this difficult time but also the fabulous memories and incredible stories that have been shared in how Bev touched so many lives.

Let’s keep the legacy of this incredible man that touched so many lives through his music, his radio personality and his genuine kind soul going through the mentoring and support of future students entering the same world that Bev Munro so profoundly left his mark.

On behalf of the entire Munro family I would like to say thank you to everyone who took part in making the Bev Munro Memorial and Tribute show such a success and a truly remarkable way to honour Dad. You have to know he would have felt humbled and was smiling down upon us. I could hear him say “That folks...is country music at its finest”!!
A special thank you for the amazing efforts of Dave Munro, George Myren and Jackie Rae Greening in putting everything together to make this show happen!
Thanks to the terrific turnout, we are well on our way to setting up the memorial Scholarship in Dads name through NAIT. We are currently almost half way to our goal of $25,000.00 - 100% of the $15.00 ticket sales went directly into the scholarship fund 
We have had many folks contact us as to how they can contribute to the fund after the show. If you could not make it out to the tribute, and would like to contribute to the scholarship fund please consider purchasing a “virtual ticket” for $15.00 and help us reach our goal.
Amazingly enough we have already had people contacting us to ask if this was going to be an annual fundraising event …….. Stay tuned
