Bethany Girard Campaign to Graduate

 
Hello!

My name is Bethany Girard. I am an artist and resident of Atlanta, Georgia seeking help to raise enough funds in order for my mother to see me graduate as she is currently battling stage 3 breast cancer. It is my hope and dream to be able to have her witness me walk down the aisle and accept my diploma at Georgia State University. That being said, let me tell you about myself and my journey towards graduation.


Growing up with a single-widowed mom, I was taught to reach for the stars and to never allow our circumstances to hold me back. Higher education was always encouraged in our household even though there were no funds available to pursue those dreams. Though, I have earned the Hope Scholarship - I only receive partial funding as I work full-time and can only afford time-wise to attend 6 credit hours each semester in order to balance work life and keep up my GPA. Financial Aid became the only other option to back up my plans to graduate and that has now been maxed to $56,000. Being only 30 credit hours short of graduating Georgia State University with a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art, I am reaching out to those who support and believe in my work/vision as an artist. My mother has given me strength and taught me to do what needs to be done in order to achieve great things in life but also insisted that her children "break the chains", fearlessly.

So, here I am, doing the thing I think I cannot do -- asking for help in order to fund my education. Attached to this campaign, I have a included a 3D Tour of my at home studio that is meant to be observed as my intimate, virtual senior portfolio as it includes most of my artwork that I have created in the past 10 years. Inside the web linkyou will find many buttons to explore that include paintings, drawings, photographs, videos of singing, interviews describing my experience as an artist at GSU, ect. Dan Smigrod is a photographer and friend that believes in my reason to call for action. He is the visionary of this project and it is my pleasure for all to explore this unique piece of work that we have co-created together. I am extremely lucky to have good friends and family that inspire me to reach for the stars. 

I am grateful for those who take the time to read, observe, and support my campaign to graduate from Georgia State University.
