After recent success the world famous Besses Boys’ Band have qualified to compete at the National Brass Band Championship of Great Britain (2nd section final) this September in Cheltenham. We are looking forward to represting the North West of England at the upcoming contest and it is a monumental achievement for the band to compete at this prestigious contest for what will be the fourth time this decade.

We have supported our local community since forming in 1943 and our events include concerts, community events, charity events and private bookings. The band is self-financed by its members, along with income from concerts and sponsorship and we regularly participate in many community events with the band raising over £2000 for the Manchester Emergency Fund in summer 2017.

The costs associated with competing at the National Brass Band Championships are extremely high and being a self-funded organization it is a real struggle to raise the money required to be able to attend and represent our region at this prestigious contest. The band is run by volunteers and funded by income from membership subscriptions and concerts. We have monthly expenditure such as band room rent, instrument repair, music , instrument replacement, unifrom upkeep, contest entry fees, transportation, tuition fees and insurance premiums, to name but a few and with the added presure of attending the National Finals we are reaching out for support and donations to cover the costs that without, we would be unable to afford. Our fundraising effort will cover the cost of accomodation, transport, contest entry, music, clothing and tuition fees and will secure us the opportunity to represent the North West for the fourth time in the bands illustrious history.

Besses Boys' Band is a Second section graded North West Area brass band. The band represents Whitefield, the surrounding area and the County in national contest championships, entertains the general public through performance and encourages children to learn musical instruments whilst developing talent and performance skills. We have a great balance of age and experience and the amount of young players who achieve so much with the band is amazing.

We have performed throughout Great Britain, Europe and Australia and have performed to high class figures, many celebrities, dignitaries and her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The band has such a good rapport, and the bond between players within the organization is amazing. Everyone is proud to be a part of the organization and we are all proud to represent Whitefield and the surrounding area both on and off the contest stage. We are looking forward to many more years of music making and to continue supporting the development of young talent in music and performance.

We sincerelly appreciate any contribution however large or small. If you would like to discuss supporting the band by other means we would be happy to hear from you;
