Berlin to Gravesend Cycle for Palm Ward

€1,075 of €7,000 goal

Raised by 46 people in 6 months
From the 13th April until the 20th I will be cycling 1100km from Berlin to my home town of Gravesend. I wanted to help my Mum and her Ward raise money for equipment that the NHS can't cover in her hospital.

Palm ward is a Respiratory Ward that cares for 31 patients.
Palm ward care is provided by a team of nurses, health care assistants and other health professionals, with a holistic approach and to make sure that the patient has got a the best care during their stay.
As a team of nurses we aim to recognise each patient as an individual and, as such, the patient’s care will be planned to incorporate their physical, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing. We also place an important emphasis on respecting individual cultural and religious beliefs.
Our nursing care is based on health rather than illness, as we empower our patients to be involved in their care and also promote their own independence. However, we recognise that, unfortunately, not all of our patients will return to their previous level of health.
As an Holistic approach deals with all levels of care there are various pieces of equipment that are necessary to ensure all needs are met.
One of the issues that can be had when a patient is unwell is urinary incontinence retention and infection. Therefore a bladder scanner is imperative for diagnosing urinary retention and incomplete bladder emptying. A ward based portable ultrasound scanner offers an
inexpensive, non invasive and reliable way to measure urine volume within the bladder. The bladder scan plays a vital role in assessing and diagnosing the type of urinary incontinence.
It can also be used to ascertain the optimum time for intermittent catheterisation, diagnose a decrease urine output and also be useful for managing patients with an obsession for frequent toileting.

A comprehensive assessment tool, close monitoring and portable
ultrasound bladder scanner are essential in producing appropriate continence promoting programme.
The cost of this equipment is around £7,000.

We did it! Both myself and Leon managed 8 days 1122km. David Corcoran Joined us at Rotterdam and Cycled the last three days and our good friends Colin Garner and Lee Glover met us at Dover to make sure we got home in style :D A truly amazing adventure, lots of great memories, sore legs and dirty bikes.

I will keep the donations open for now, thank you to everyone that has donated, my mum has also received some donations by cash, so the total is over 1000 euros so far!
Already thinking about the next trip ;)
