Bergie is cutting his hair!
After growing his hair for 5 years, Connor is ready to cut his hair for two great causes on May 1st. He will donate his hair to Locks for Love so that his gorgeous curls can be made into a wig for a cancer patient.
The other recipient is the Partnership Program , which is part of the Schizophrenia Society of Saskatchewan. After losing his cousin Jordan to his mental illness four years ago, Connor wants to not only help other young people have access to programs that could make a huge difference in their lives, but to also raise awareness and help erase the stigma of mental illness.
The Schizophrenia Society of Saskatchewan’s Partnership Program is essentially a “Stigma Busters” public awareness program. The Partnership Program shares stories of recovery from schizophrenia and related psychosis with the general public. Our goals are to promote recovery from schizophrenia and related mental illnesses and to reduce the stigma and misconceptions associated with mental health disorders. The Partnership Program puts a positive face of recovery at the forefront of mental illness dispelling the myths and fears the general public has. It also informs the public on how to seek treatment and services.
Partnership Program presentations are generally given at no cost but it is appreciated when our hosts can provide an honorarium of $30 to $60 per presentation as we pay our clients living with schizophrenia and related disorders an honorarium of $30 each time they present. We often provide two presenters affected by separate mental health disorders at each presentation to give the audience a wider view of related illnesses.
The funds raised from this campaign will help pay these honorariums.
