Benny’s Small Intestine Surgery

Benny is an approximately 7 year old beagle terrier mix. In the afternoon of Sunday, July 29th, Benny started vomiting profusely, immediately expelling food and water despite eagerly taking in a large amount of both. In between these sudden outbursts, he appeared lethargic and unsteady. He was rushed to the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, where the veterinarian discovered a rock lodged in the middle of his small intestine.
An ultrasound revealed inflammation to the intestinal walls just prior to the rock's position. It seemed too large to pass on its own through the remainder of his small intestine without causing further damage. Fearing his pain and the potential of puncture through the tissue further down the small intestine - leading to a fatal infection - I decided to have the rock surgically removed. The veterinarian advised me that there was a 20% chance of complications following the surgery, and only a 50% chance of survival following such complications, but any chance to save my best friend was worth the risk in my mind. The cost of his surgery and follow-up treatment pushed me to seek help, which is the main focus of this campaign.
Who is Benny?
I adopted Benny from the Yolo County SPCA in 2014. His foster mom assumed he was a mix between a beagle and terrier from his appearance and his proclivity to sniff everything. He has his quirks, like a fear of squeaky toys. He rarely opens his mouth. He doesn't fetch. He acts more like a cat than a dog. He's not typical, but neither am I! But most importantly, he's been there during my darkest times, through loneliness and heartbreak. I hate to see my best friend suffer, and I need help giving him the care he needs right now.
