Benny is a fun-loving, sweet 5 year old kindergartener who, on October 13, 2016, was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma. Because his primary abdominal tumour has metastasized, doctors are estimating a very long road ahead, with treatments ongoing over the next 1.5-2.5 years.
Due to the aggressiveness of this cancer, Benny has already started his current round of chemotherapy. After he completes this initial chemotherapy, he will have to undergo surgery to remove the primary tumour, followed by more chemotherapy and possibly radiation.
This diagnosis is devastating for a family with 2 young children but, on top of that, they are expecting another baby in February. Geoff and Fiona are working hard to get Benny the medical care that he needs while also caring for older brother Liam and preparing for their new baby, all while meeting the demands of their employment.
The Kehler’s are strong and ready to fight this but they need our help! There are so many people looking to help so we’ve started this page in the hopes of raising money for the family to offset the costs involved in helping Benny beat this cancer. The Kehler’s want to be transparent about where your donations would be going. Mainly the family would apply any funds received towards the basics, like the added fuel costs of going back & forth to the hospital, medications (because currently the medications aren't 100% covered), and groceries. Obviously with the arrival of baby #3 (another boy!) their income and resources will be slightly more stretched.
Geoff, Fiona, Liam, and of course Benny will continue to need all of the positive thoughts, prayers, and support throughout these next few months and even years. With a large community who loves this family, let’s help to relieve their financial anxiety and give them one less thing to worry about so that they can put all of their focus on getting Benny better as soon as possible!
