Benji Needs knee and hip surgery

Anyone who has met Benji will know that he is a little dog with a huge personality. After 5 years of living in the African bush, we decided to move to Portugal so Benji's flight was booked and he was all set to go.
Unfortunately just one month before traveling Benji decided to chase the monkeys that were coming too close to the house, wanting to see what food they could steal from the kitchen. Benji jumped off the deck and chased them into the bush. He's done this many times before but this time he landed badly and tore both ligaments on his back left knee. This was going to require surgery and wouldn't repair on its own.
It is a specialized surgery that requires a long recuperation period and there was no time to have the surgery in South Africa because he was not going to be allowed to travel if he was
On arriving in Portugal he was taken to the vet and it was confirmed with x-rays that both ligaments are torn but that wasn't all that showed up on the x-ray. Benji's left hip is also causing him considerable pain so he now requires a double surgery!
As you can imagine we were not financially prepared for this news. Having just spent a considerable amount on the big move to Portugal.
We love our special, very spoilt little boy. He has enough personality for 10 dogs, we have actually written a book about his adventures in the bush which is about to be published on Amazon Kindle, titled Benj's Adventures in the African Bush. We have decided to do this Gofundme because we were not able to sign up for pet insurance in Portugal because of the terrible timing of the injury.
After the surgery Benji will need to be confined to a small space for up to 4 weeks, possibly more, he will not be able to jump up or to run. This is going to be a difficult time for him but if it means that he will eventually be able to go for walks again and on more adventures with the family then it will be worth it.
We appreciate every donation, no matter how small, toward the cost of his surgery. He has to have surgery this week so we will trust the vets at the Portimão Veterinary Hospital, they come highly recommended and are very caring,
