Help Benedict Cancer Treatment

Donativo protegido
My name is Lucy Bieri, I am Nigerian born and live in Bern Switzerland over three decades. I started this fundraising to help a friend diagnosed with cancer for medical treatment.

The friend in question is Benedict Ikemefuna, a trained carpenter. He was once my classmate for a term in secondary school and later became very good friend to my brother.

In 2005, when I saw him, he owned a small furniture store, to patronize him, I bought a bed from him which I gave to someone as present. That was the last time I saw him, until last month September I travelled to Nigeria.

I was with my brother at home when he received phone message alert from Benedict’s wife, saying, come and see your friend for the last time, he’s dying.

That was when my brother started telling me the story of Benedict’s illness. He showed me couple of pictures, I was shocked, he looked like shadow of himself compared to 2005 I saw him last. That horrible looking boil on his neck and all the pain he’s been enduring.  My brother has been great support to the family. I asked what about his furniture business? I was told it folded up as he had spent all his savings on treating the cancer.

My brother said to me, he sent Benedict’s pictures to all friends who knew him from school days if they will donate something to help him. I asked my brother if any of those friends donated something, he said only one sent about Naira 30000 about $100. Ok, better than nothing.

I asked my brother what kind of cancer it is, but he could not tell me because Benedict hasn’t been tested to determined cancer type. I asked why, he said because they could not afford it at which point i decided to pay for the tests and treat which was done and confirmed as esophagus cancer.

All this while He just sits at home waiting for death even feeding the family has become a problem.

On further probing I was told last year, his neck started swelling and turn to boil this year. They went to General hospital when the boil refused to heal. It was from there they were referred to Federal medical center Asaba where they were told that it was suspected cancer but needed to do tests which they could not afford until now

They have been trying alternative treatment all this while with no healing effect. Its only now, that they confirmed its Esophageal cancer at stage 3 because I paid for it.

In Africa, treatment is paid for on cash and carry basis and if you go to the General /Government hospitals you are made to buy your own drugs and if you cant buy that you are immediately discharged from the hospital. My visit to Nigeria this past September, made it possible for him to go for real test and get medication for a while. I was told after the test, drugs were prescribed and bought. Now his back home.

Please help me put him back to hospital. He is strong physically, psychologically and spiritually.

At least he knows now what kind of cancer he has. He believes that he must have inhaled the chemical used in weeding his farm Most people use chemical to dry the weeds instead of manual weeding with tools as we all know it.

Please I’m begging all those willing to save a life to please help this young man. I thought I try to raise at least $10,000. Though, that will not cover the whole treatment, but it’s a good start. Any contribution will do even $1. nothing is too small I want him back to the hospital to give him a fighting chance with your help.

If you want to talk to him ,  contact his wife Jenifer here: 234 for Nigeria code. Nr 002347011053201

I thank you wholeheartedly.
