Standing Strong Against Cancer with Ben Carnes

Ben Carnes, our beloved Choctaw warrior, is someone you want by your side when there is a long, hard fight. He made sure Native prisoners could practice traditional spirituality. Ben was there to help the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing. He will get in a car and drive all night to protect a community in danger or a friend facing grief.

Now Ben is in real danger and it is clear to those of us who care about him that he needs our help.  Since June 2018, he has been fighting for his life against aggressive bladder cancer. The medical "care" received through Indian Health Service has been poor. Thankfully, Ben's wife and champion, Cat Carnes, has finally found a way to get him quality medical treatment and insurance coverage.

Here's the main issue now: Ben urgently needs a reliable vehicle to get to his medical appointments. He is sick and in pain to the extent that he is unable to work. The family has only one car, which Cat needs to get to her job as a nurse although she's had to take a pay cut in order to have hours to take care of him. They live in Oklahoma in an area without other transportation. 

Cost: Estimates for a decent used car in the Tulsa area range at lowest around $15k.  The family is struggling a lot given the toll that illness takes on capacity to work and the added expenses that come with illness.
