Background on Belete and his family
Belete and his family have lived, worked, played, and worshipped in the Twin Cities for the past 15 years.

Belete & Mimi were married in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia nearly 20 years ago.  Just prior to that, Mimi was granted a green card and moved to the United States.  In 2002, she became a US Citizen and asked Belete to join her.  Belete was hesitant to come since Ethiopia was all that he knew. Plus he owned his own auto mechanic shop that employed several other young men.  However, he loved Mimi deeply, and so he agreed to move.

Belete gained his US Citizenship a few years later, and he and Mimi settled into the Twin Cities. They now have two beautiful children, Aeba, 13, and Becktu, 7, who go to school in St. Louis Park.

They are an incredibly kind and gentle family. Belete & Mimi have worked hard to provide opportunities and a loving home for their children. This is obvious by spending time with either of them or their children.  They are thoughtful and compassionate to all around them, and their smiles brighten any day.

Belete’s story
On January 2, 2017, Belete suffered a heart attack requiring open-heart surgery.  This was an especially surprising event given Belete’s good health and young age.  The doctors have said his survival is a miracle.

Shortly after surgery, the company Belete worked for as a mechanic ended its contract with the MSP airport - leaving him without unemployment benefits.  Due to his required recovery time and ongoing health struggles, Belete will be unable to work for the next couple months. Following that, his work opportunities will be limited as he’ll be unable to lift anything heavy.

How you can help
Many of you have asked how you can help.  Your prayers, kindness, gifts of food, and more have generously helped through these initial months.  However, helping this family with necessary housing, transportation, and food costs – not to mention medical bills - will allow Belete & his family to focus on getting him healthy and back on his feet.

If you are unable to contribute financially, please help by passing along information of organizations that can help or by sharing this story with others who can.

To help understand how your donations will be used, please consider the following expenses:

-       $25 would sponsor Aeba or Becktu in a month’s worth of school activities
-       $50 would sponsor a month’s worth of gas
-       $100 would sponsor a month’s worth of insurance
-       $250 would sponsor a month’s worth of car payment
-       $500 would sponsor a month’s worth of food
-       $1000 would sponsor a month’s worth of rent
