My inlaws were victims of the Fox River flooding here in Silver Lake WI. This was my Father-in-laws childhood home that he bought from his parents 52 years ago. Basement flooded to the ceiling, with an additional 2ft on the 1st floor. To make matters worse, at one point years ago this home had oil burning heat and the residual 500 gallon tank (approx 1/2 full with diesel oil) was was completely submerged causing a leak and covered the home in oil. I will have nightmares about this smell! They have no flood insurance. The electric is gone, the furnace is gone, appliances - furniture - antiquities ruined. Hot water heater rose to the ceiling breaking water pipes. At this point we don't even know what options there are. Fortunately my husband and I live nearby and were able to take them in. Dave is wheel chair bound, so we built a make shift ramp to the deck and setup a mattress in the dining room. They are safe. They are comfortable. He drives his chair down the ramp about 6am every morning and says "weeeee" making me laugh every time. Red Cross, local churches and this wonderful community have gone above and beyond providing food and water. Thank you!
Im starting this fund in their behalf to support recovery. Coming months could mean renovation, or could mean starting over. Please join me and support Dave and Joyce! Every dollar counts! Thank you ~
