BEDS FOR ORPHANS

Donation protected

Greetings,

A group of people from the United States and different walks of life have decided to partner together and volunteer to help meet some of the pressing needs currently facing LAFANA INSTITUTE OF HOPE (501C3 Nonprofit Organization) orphanage located in Fauché - Grand Goâve, HAITI.

LaFana’s director, Luna Marie Masson and her family have run this orphanage for 7 generations. She has continued the family tradition by lovingly and sacrificially serving the children there.

LaFana orphanage was greatly damaged during the 2010 earthquake. Luna Marie mentioned that since then Lafana has lost almost everything and she personally has been sustaining it with very little help from the outside. Due to these facts, the current situation has become quite grim! The main building that housed most of the orphans was completely demolished. A smaller, new replacement building was poorly constructed and is not really livable as it is unfinished and incomplete. LaFana has consistently been threatened to be shut down by Social Services. The Haitian government refuses to help them with anything. To make matters worse, last year just before Christmas, one of the building which stored their food, clothes and bedding supplies burned down!

Unfortunately 40 children had to be sent back onto the streets because of lack of space, beds and resources. There are 52 children currently residing here.

A few weeks ago we flew to Haiti to assess the situation firsthand. We have worked in over 10 countries on 5 continents providing aid for some of the poorest people and this case stand among those in great need.

We are URGENTLY trying to build 20 triple-high bunk beds for the children! Many of them sleep on the concrete floor as they don't have mattresses and their beds are made of rod iron bars. The few mattresses they do have are shared with up to 3 children per mattress. We have negotiated deals with a local mattress company to make 5" foam mattresses at an affordable price.  We will purchase all the wood locally and would like to also  install shelving for the children to store their clothes and their few belongings.

In May 2016, a small team of people will be traveling to LaFana to build these beds.

We are also working on getting a functional water supply. They had a NGO build a water well but it collapsed during the earthquake.  Currently the children bring water and bathe in a spring 1/4 mile away. Their current well needs a stable power supply.

100% of everything donated will go to help the children of Lafana and their needs! Funds raised over our goal will be used for other needs of LaFana orphanage.

Our projects in order of priority:

 - 20 triple-high bunk beds (60) mattresses
- Secure water tanks and install solar panels for the      well
- Shelving for the children
- Install 2 outdoor solar panel lights for the courtyard
- Build four showers and improve bathroom facilities
- Buy rice, beans, corn meal, and dried fish

Thank you for your support and we greatly appreciate every dollar donated. You can rest assured that funds raised will be spent in the best possible way. You will impact the future generation of Haiti and we're praying it will be a great one.
