Becker's Paradise Camp Fire Relief

Donation protected
I'm raising money to help my aunt, uncle, and cousins rebuild their lives after they abruptly lost their home and all their belongings in Camp Fire this week.  My heart breaks as Camp Fire has catastrophically destroyed homes, structures, and families in the community where I grew up, and continues to grow with only 20% containment.

Starting in the early morning of November 8th, Camp Fire has burned over 100,000 acres in Northern California, destroying over 6700 structures and homes, and taking the lives of at least 42 people. The fire rapidly became the most destructive fire in  California state history, destroying the entire town of Paradise, a forest town in Northern California with a population of  around 26,000. Around 52,000 people remain evacuated from Paradise and neighboring towns.

The Becker family - my Aunt Lisa, Uncle Randy, and cousins Alex & Aaron - is one of thousands of families who lost their homes and everything they own in the tragic fire.

While Lisa was at work on Thursday morning, Aaron and Alex were home and received evacuation orders around 8am. Randy, who was on his way to work, rushed home and was one of the last few who was able to get through before all the roads closed. They spent 20 minutes setting sprinklers around and on the house before quickly evacuating with their dog and cat. With the power out and their clothing trapped in the washing machine, they left with only the clothing on their backs. Lisa rushed home, but wasn't able to get there in time as all roads leading to Paradise were shut down. We are so thankful at they are all safe.

This morning they received official word that their house and all their belongings did not survive the fire.

My aunt works tirelessly to serve her community. Lisa is a grade school teacher in Orland, a small farming community outside Chico, where she pours her heart, energy, and own resources into her classroom to ensure her students get a vibrant curriculum. She has fought for her students to get access to enriched learning opportunities and changed so many young lives with her compassion for teaching and her students.

Many folks have reached out to ask me how they can help, so we're raising money to help with their immediate expenses. They have a long road ahead of them. While they're currently staying at my parents' house for the short term, they now have to figure out next steps - they need longer-term housing, clothes, pet food, bedding, food, etc. They will have major day to day living costs as they rebuild their lives and figure out next steps amidst this devastation and the goal of this GoFundMe is to provide a little support as they begin that process.

Any amount you can give, even just words of support or ideas for additional resources, will make a difference in their lives. Thank you.
