I am a passionate advocate for universal access to quality healthcare, regardless of gender, race, geographic location, and economic/social status. So what am I doing about it? Well, I am taking matters into my own hands, literally.
Hi,
My name is Rebecca and I am a registered nurse from Australia, I have a post graduate certificate in paediatric critical care and will complete a masters of public health and tropical medicine this year. In the last 11 years I have conducted four humanitarian aid trips, two to Africa and two to Haiti, all of which were self funded.
In 2017 I plan to return to Haiti for approximately six months to conduct more humanitarian aid work. I will be returning to work in a tuberculosis and HIV clinic in Port-au-Prince (I have worked there for six months previously), I will also be working with an organisation which rehabilitates abused and abandoned children.
Through the second organisation I will be conducting outreach work teaching first aid and running community health programs in rural and remote locations. The community health programs will consist of maternal and infant health screening, with the aim of highlighting common complications early, to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in remote areas lacking access to healthcare.
Your support would be lifesaving, the more support I receive the longer I can stay and the more people I can continue to care for and educate.
As part of my sponsor a nurse campaign I am seeking support for the following:
- Accomodation $20 US a night, includes a tent space & 2 meals
- Insurance
- Transport costs (to reach remote communities), to transport sick and injured persons from remote communities to hospitals when necessary.
- Excess luggage fees (to transport donated medical supplies from Australia to Haiti)
- Funds to purchase necessary medication, equipment, food & anything else required for those in urgent need in my care.
