Because You Care for Charles Trott (Man-Man)

Donation protected
This campaign of love for Charles Trott (Man-Man to family) is being started for all of you who have been inboxing, calling and texting his loved ones asking, "what can I do?" It's for you who say, "I just want to do something" because you can't be there physically to help. This campaign is for the ones who've expressed with such love and admiration for Charles that, "he has been such a blessing to our family and community at large and WE JUST WANT TO HELP!!!!" The amount you see isn't set in stone. We have the ability to change it based on needs and your response, so please, by all means continue to donate pass the goal. This is set up because his friends and family truly love him. We thank you, his caring friends, in advance for thinking long-term for Charles while his family could only think, "we just want him to live right now!!"  For those who are interested, see the backstory below...

The backstory:

On December 2nd after work, Charles was in a terrible accident trying to avoid a deer. His car flipped several times before landing in a ditch. He was unassisted for an unknown amount of time before a caring individual passing by sought emergency assistance. He was transported to Kent General by 9:30 PM. Sadly his mother couldn’t be notified until 12/3 around noon because he was unable to state who he was or who his family was at initial contact. It was found that he had fractured his spine at the c1-c2 level (base of his skull/brain). He had an extreme amount of swelling in the area of the fractures and broken ribs. Due to the amount of swelling, surgery didn’t take place until 12/4/18 for his safety. His fractured neck was repaired with hardware inserted and a neck brace was placed.  On 12/5 he was doing excellent and was discharged. His pain was controlled to his satisfaction and he surpassed the expectations of the physical therapist. He really wanted to get out of there! Such a tough guy he is! Unfortunately, a few days after returning to his mother’s home for care, his body began to spasm, causing uncontrolled and unbearable pain. While emergency responders were trying to get him into the ambulance, he fell. He was again admitted to the ICU on December 9th with massive amounts of swelling at the base of his brain, again, and down his spinal cord. He was alert and oriented but unable to move his extremities outside of wiggling toes and fingers. About 12 hours after admission, his breathing became severely impacted (due to the level of the injury and massive swelling in the area of the breathing control center of our brains) and he was placed on a ventilator to breathe for him as he could no longer breathe voluntarily. Approximately 4 days after being on the ventilator he was able to breathe more on his own and required little help from the machine. Many complications can arise from the location of his injury and prolonged use of the machine with the tubing down his throat. He had already started having uncontrolled fevers despite being given the max doses of antipyretics. On 12/16 a tracheostomy was ultimately placed after his body became strong enough to withstand the procedure. A gastric tube was also inserted into his abdomen for feeding, as he cannot eat yet. The ventilator is now attached to his trach. The plan of care is ventilator weaning, monitoring of the swelling in his brain and surgical site and physical therapy. He was able to breathe for one hour yesterday without the vent before he became too fatigued. He is much more alert and awake and getting stronger every day. His ability to communicate is better by mouthing words.  Once stable enough, he will be transported to a rehab facility. The facility could be as far as Philadelphia,PA or Salisbury, MD. His family isn’t concerned about distance or costs, we just want the best care possible. The road to recovery for Charles is slated to be 3-4 months or more. His mother will be out of work caring for him, by his side every step of the way. Updates will be given as he progresses and transitions to rehab and finally home. If you can’t support in finance, please support in love and prayers. He really could use the words of encouragement that you all continue to post on facebook and send through his family. Please Please Please also share this campaign to show him how much we love him.
