My Name is Marcel Harris and I am raising money for my Mother Bayyinah Lawson.
On September 15th my mother went in to Surgery to have a tumor removed from her Pituitary Gland in her Brain and the surgery did not go as planned. The surgeon accidentally hit her Left Carotid Artery causing a lot of damage to the artery and her brain. That led to her having to have an emergency 8-hour surgery on September 16th where a Neuro-endovascular Surgeon repaired her damaged artery. She then spent 16 Days in the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit where she was temporarily medically sedated and on a ventilator along with having her medical state watched very closely as any increase in her blood pressure or heart rate could have caused a stroke or brain bleed.
Due to the initial surgery not going as planned, my mother is very sensitive to light, which keeps in her in room with no lights on and wearing sunglasses every time she steps out of her room, whether it be going to the bathroom, or sitting in the Living room watching TV with the famly. She has restriction when it comes to doing simple everyday needs, and lost the ability to do tasks she once took pride in, such as getting dressed, doing her hair, and other personal hygiene.
Following the Discharge of my mom from the hospital, we have had many follow up appointments with her doctors in Madison, WI and in Milwaukee, WI; some are check-ups and others are to try to figure out what the next steps in her recovery are.
Going into the surgery my mother had saved enough money to keep our family a float for 1 month, keeping in mind that she would be back to work November 1st. That was not the case. My mother has been off of work since September 14th and her return has not yet been determined due to her Doctors' trying to figure out how to help her light sensitivity. Her inability to work has left us scraping by month-to-month trying to make ends meet and we have reached our wits end.
The money we raise will go towards, paying household bills (house payments, water, gas, and electric bills), groceries, medical expenses, traveling to and from doctor appointments, and other miscellaneous expenses that arise.
I have been in charge of all of my mothers personal business making sure her needs are taken care of. With me being in charge of my mother business, I had made the decision to take last semester off of school and retire from the sport of Diving to take on a full-time job to help in all ways possible.
I am calling on her Facebook Friends and Family to assist in any way you can, whether that be donating any monetary amount or sharing this with your friends. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated
