Battling Lorraine’s Lymphoma

Who’s Lorraine?

Lorraine is a 41-year old mother of three (11 yr. old son and 9 yr. old twins son & daughter), she is a fun-loving, kind, optimistic person with a great sense of humor. While being a mom is her favorite job, she is also a dedicated teacher loved by her students and colleagues.  After spending 14 years as a deaf educator she made the transition to middle school where she has taken on the challenge of making math fun for sixth graders.

What’s the Story?

In the summer of 2017 Lorraine was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  She took a leave of absence from teaching to tackle her cancer with the prescribed 6 cycles of chemotherapy.  Upon completing the chemotherapy, she learned it was not effective on her tumor and a more aggressive chemotherapy was prescribed.  Having just completed the fourth course she is preparing to have CAR-T therapy.  This is an exciting newly approved therapy which involves taking some of Lorraine’s T cells, the body’s cancer fighters, sending them to a lab to be modified and trained for battle, then reinfusing the new and improved T cells to battle the cancer cells.  This treatment will take place at Hackensack University Medical Center and it will require a minimum of 7 weeks away from home.  During this time, she must stay within very close proximity to the hospital as she will have to go in for daily checks and she needs to be within easy access to the hospital in case she experiences any complications.

What’s the Money for?

Unfortunately, insurance will not cover any of the costs associated with staying at/near the hospital and she must have someone with her 24/7.  Therefore, in addition to the already mounting costs of medical expenses (she is very fortunate to have health insurance, but we all know there are still many out of pocket expenses) she will now have to pay for many nights lodging and incidentals during her time at HUMC.  Because she had to take a leave from teaching, her family is managing these expenses and running the household on only one income.

Why GoFundMe?

Many people have asked what they can do to help Lorraine and her family and the time has finally come where there is an answer.  This GoFundMe page has been created to allow people to contribute funds to offset medical expenses and the large cost associated with 60+ days of lodging near HUMC.

Lorraine, her family and friends thank you SO much for reading and considering this request.  Any donations will help and are GREATLY appreciated.
