G20 Young Entrepreneurs Summit

Donation protected
I am an entrepreneur and volunteer as a Director at the Delta Chamber of Commerce. This July, I was  selected as one of 22 delegates to represent Canada at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance (YEA) Summit in Istanbul, Turkey and am asking for your support!

The summit takes place September 7th - 9th, 2015.

My story
After graduating from high school in 2005, I moved to Whistler, BC to become, of all things, a professional snowboarder. I wasn't the greatest snowboarder at the time, but it seemed like a good idea because snowboarding was both fun and challenging. The odds were against me, but being the risk taker I am, I packed my bags and moved to Whistler with my best friend. Fast forward 5 years, it actually worked. I met hundreds of amazing people, attracted sponsorships from several companies, and travelled the North and South America working with world-class photographers for various magazines and snowboarding videos. [Insert scratch noise from your favourite DJ]

In 2010 I broke my fibula while playing recreational soccer. Five seconds later, I broke my tibia while trying to stand up. Say good bye to snowboarding and sponsors!

Being bed ridden for six months allowed me to put 100% of my time and attention into writing a business plan. A class member in college at the time, Scott Foran, significantly helped me write the plan and would ultimately become my business partner. Together we started 505-Junk, a junk removal and recycling company which currently has eight full-time employees between the ages of 18 and 29, as well as several contractors and part-time workers. The company focuses on donating reusable items to people in need while recycling a broad range of materials including different types of woods, plastics, metals, electronics, drywall, and more. The 505-Junk team has succesfully diverted millions of pounds of waste from local landfills to date and has been fortunate enough to win several regional and provincial awards.

Why this matters
Youth entrepreneurship is on the rise and it is important that policies and regulations are in place to support economic growth rather than inhibit it. Furthermore, it is essential that British Columbia and Canada are well represented at the G20 YEA Summit to ensure that our voices be heard in conversations regarding youth entrepreneurs on the international stage.

According to Futurpreneur, "the Canadian delegates will travel to Turkey this September to engage the G20 leaders and policymakers in the cause of youth entrepreneurship and to meet and network with over 600 entrepreneurs from around the globe."

Help us change the world for the better! Thank you very much for your support.
