Bara's Emergency Surgery

Donation protected

Bara came into Josh's life when he found her nearly seven years ago, pregnant and abandoned along side the street. Since then, she has been the center of his world. The two have been there for each other through the best times and have faced the worse together.

On Mother's Day, 5/14, she began showing she might have a bladder problem, and just was not her upbeat, spunky self at all. By Monday morning, she had not improved, if anything her mood was even more down. On recommendation, she was immedately taken into the nearest VCA hospital and evaluated. There are no words to describe the fear that runs through you, while you wait to hear what may or may not be happening, all the while, you try to hope for the response to be that there is nothing wrong.

However, this was not the case for Bara. No one could have predicited what she had festering in her tiny bladder. She had never shown signs of have any issues with kidney stones.

She was rushed into emergency surgery, the veternariany fearing that at any moment, her organ may fail and burst.

There is a strange dichotomy of fear and dread of receiving a phone call while you wait. Fear that builds with the silence and not knowing how things are going, all the unanswered thoughts that run through your head. Dread for the phone call that tells you to make final arrangements.

She was in surgery for nearly four hours, well past the preparation of 30-60 minutes as thought of by the vet and staff. Eventually, the call comes, with relief for both sides--she pulled through the surgery and the surgical team was successful in saving her bladder and her from near death.

She spent the remainder of the evening with the specialized ER team of Central Coast Pet ER Clinic. Without them, she would not have been able to receive the much needed fluids and medical attention for her extremely low temperature post surgery and sever dehydration.

There really is no way to plan for the incredibly large bills. Thus far, we have been able to cover a portion of her medical bills as they stand today, however, there is a huge portion that we have no means to cover.

Most of all, we are just appreciative that she is alive.
