Banjo is a young male mixed breed dog. He is victim of alleged animal cruelty and was found covered in large scabs, and patches of scaly, dry skin.
In this photo (above), you can see the terrible wounds on his back on the day we found him.
In this photo (above) Banjo is getting weighed by shelter staff moments after arriving at the shelter. You can see how poor he feels, he hardly moved that first day, he was lethargic and just sad and withdrawn.
But not any more! "Banjo is just the happiest dog," said Animal Control Officer Skasick, "You'd think that he'd cower or be afraid after suffering like this, but he isn't nervous at all!"
She's right, he greets us at the front of the kennel every time we come by to give a treat, meds and spray medication on his sores.
Banjo has been to the veterinarian, who said the amount of demodex mange mites she saw on the slide were the most she's ever seen in her career. He must be miserable!! Can you imagine the itchy-feeling all over your body? That's what Banjo has experienced, likely, for months.
He is now receiving daily medication, special medicated baths and spray to sooth his dry skin. But, we need your help to pay for the laundry list of medicines he needs to recover! We anticipate that he will be in our care for several weeks to months.
His previous owner has been charged with animal cruelty, and we'll keep you updated as this case moves through the system.
