Tortured Dog Emergency Vet Bills

$2,315 of $7,500 goal

All front teeth removed. Canines filed down. Lacerations all over his face and body. Skin and bones. All signs pointing to dog used for bait. Someone hurt this poor little guy and vilely tortured him. But this little survivor wanted a chance to live. He ran away from his torturers though. He ran away and hid behind a shed for possibly many days hoping his abusers won't find him. A kind samaritan found him and his first steps towards hope began. He has been nothing but sweet and loving and gentle. The No Kill Project could not turn their back on him; not when he needs us the most.
This little angel needs a lot of help. He needs a lot of veterinary care. He needs to know that this world is not filled with people who will remove all his teeth so he won't fight back when used as bait. He needs to know that there are members of our community who want to see him go to bed with a full belly under a soft blanket. We need your help to help him and we need it urgently. He will be going to the vet first thing in the morning where his long road towards a new life will start.
Please help us help him.

We have received some devastating news about Jayden.
Jayden's foster took him home last night and noticed that he began to have labored breathing. He was rushed to the ER last night and placed in an oxygen cage all night. After diagnostics today, it has been determined he has a diaphragmatic hernia. It is unknown how long he has had this and most likely happened due to severe trauma. Jayden needs a surgery NOW in order to attempt to save his life. This is an unexpected very large and expensive surgery. All his funds have been depleted in diagnostics. We need help. This is an urgent 11th hour plea to save Jayden. After all he has gone through in his life, after all he has already overcome, it doesn't feel right to not give him the chance he deserves. He has fought so hard to survive. He has done his part, we need to give him this chance. He has captured the hearts of many. We need to share this fundraiser far and wide. We need to make a miracle happen for Jayden. Please help us help him.

It has been 8 days since the horrors for Jayden came to an end...8 days since he was found hiding in fear behind a shed in one of the coldest nights this winter...8 days since his road to recovery and redemption began.
Physically, Jayden is continuing to improve though there are many hurdles he must overcome. His prolonged and extreme starvation has led to a pretty serious liver condition which we are hoping he can overcome with a new clinical plan in place which includes proper nutrition and several medications. At some point in his life, Jayden's jaw was broken and it healed incorrectly. It's sad to even think what could have caused such an injury, most likely a bat or an extremely strong kick, and how long he was left without medical care for it...how incredibly painful it was for him...the extent of Jayden's injuries are some of the worst we have ever seen and he will continue to need veterinary care for a longer time. The staff at Bay Shore Animal Hospital have done an incredible job with Jayden. They have gone far above beyond the call of duty to help him. I have never experienced such devotion and care from a veterinary team. I thank them profusely for all they've done so far and continue to do for Jayden.
Emotionally, Jayden is a new dog!!! He is loving his new life, attention, toys, a full belly and most importantly, all the love he's getting. He wags his tail now!!! He gets excited when he sees those he knows that care and love him. He has touched the heart of many people and those who care for him have fallen in love with his gentle nature and sweet disposition. Jayden will soon get a trainer to assess his behavior properly and to let us know how to best train him for his new life.
We love this before and after picture of Jayden. The difference is indescribable. Jayden has endured far more than can ever be truly understood but the way he looks at his caretakers brings tears to our eyes. You can see the tentative love in his eyes, the palpable joy from something as a simple as a warm and comfortable blanket. You can see how he wants to trust you and thank you. He is a content little dog. They tried to break Jayden but they failed.

UPDATE 1/17/18:
Jayden is continuing to improve at the vet’s office. Yesterday he had a fever which the vets were able to bring down with continued fluid therapy and antibiotics. This morning his temperature was much lower and nearly at the normal range. He was sedated and under sedation he was neutered and microchipped, x-rays were taken and his mouth was more carefully examined.
The good news is that the elbow is not shattered and there appear to be no fractures. His x-rays are going to be sent to a radiologist though for further examination. The bad news is that there is severe cellulitis, inflammation and infection in the joints of his front legs, the right leg being worse than the left. This means that Jayden needs to receive very heavy and strong medications to help him combat infections in his body. He will probably need a culture done as well. All of this was very painful for Jayden and who knows how long he has been enduring this pain. The cellulitis was brought about by at least one if not more than one traumatic event.
Jayden is going to need a dental surgeon. His mouth area is uncomfortable and many of the broken teeth parts in his mouth have been recessed into the gum. He will need several extractions and this will need to be done by a specialist. At the moment the focus remains on dealing with his legs and the infection.
He is comfortable and on pain medication. He is eating and drinking nicely and is receiving a lot of love and care from the veterinary staff.
Emotionally, Jayden is a broken little dog; he doesn’t even wag his little tail. He has started to try and lick those who pet him. He remains a gentle and loving dog despite all the pain he has gone through. He needs all the love and care in the world right now. He has a very long road of recovery ahead. We will all be there for him along every step of the way. Our promise to Jayden is that he will never suffer at the hands of humans again.
Thank you for your continued love and support,

Jayden Update:
Jayden is currently at our vet's office. The wonderful staff at Bay Shore Animal Hospital is taking great care of him. We couldn't have asked for better hands to help him through his hard time.
The extent of Jayden's ailments are pretty extreme. His front right leg appears to have suffered a pretty traumatic injury which is very, very painful to him. His mouth is very sensitive and also painful. He is currently receiving fluids and pain medications to keep him comfortable and allow him to regain some strength. In the vet's own words, "...he has gone through A LOT."
Jayden's long road to recovery starts here. He will need to be sedated to look at him closer. This will most likely occur tomorrow or Wednesday. He will need to stay at the hospital for at least a couple of nights. The best news we have received so far is that he is heartworm negative and no presence of Lyme disease.
We will be increasing his fundraiser to make sure we account for all of the extensive veterinary work he will need. So far, Jayden needs a complete blood panel, X-rays, sedation, vaccines, microchip. He will be seen by an oral specialist as his mouth, teeth and gums are in a terrible state. We have not even discussed yet what is going to be needed for the treatment of his front legs, one of which seem to be shattered at the elbow. Jayden needs a lot of help and care but we will make sure he gets everything he needs.
Through it all, Jayden has shown that he is a gentle and forgiving soul. He seems to like the gentle human touch. He has displayed only a sweet and loving disposition, often enjoying the sweet and gentle touches that those around him have given him for the last 24 hours.
We will see Jayden through his recovery. We will continue to update as the days go by. We are all anxiously waiting to see the new and transformed Jayden in his full glory; a happy and loving dog who can leave his past behind...looking forward to a new life full of love, belly rubs, treats, warm beds and plenty of cuddles.
