Our Chihuahua Bailey collapsed a few months back while out chasing his ball (his favourite past time) and we thought we had lost him. It was discovered that Bailey has a major problem with his heart valve and we were referred to Dublin Cardiology specialist Dr Tom Mullany at Nutgrove Veterinary Hospital. Since then Bailey has been on medication but unfortunately it isn’t enough anymore. Baileys health is deteriorating fast so he needs his valve repaired. Without the surgery he has only months left.
In 2012 my 17 year old brother died from a massive heart attack with no cause, reason or warning. Our lives were forever changed. Faced now with the thought of losing Bailey…one of the final pieces of our old ‘normal’ family life is unbearable.
From the day they were born Bailey and his fur brother Travis (aka ‘The Boys’) have never been apart. Last month Bailey had to stay in the vets for tests and Travis refused to eat or leave the front door waiting for his brother to return. Our fear is that if we lose Bailey, Travis may also die from a broken heart of a different kind.
We need your help.
Bailey will be travelling from our home in Dublin to the Royal Veterinary College in London for Surgery on May 13th. The surgery costs £17,500, the initial payment of £2000 has been paid. We need your help to raise the balance of 15,500 or approx €18,000. The RVC are one of only two centres in Europe equipped to carry out this specialised surgery. As Bailey does not have any other medical issues he was selected as a good candidate for this surgery. We are assured that once Bailey has the surgery he will not have to continue on medication and better still he’ll be back to his usual pace and chasing his ball once again for many years to come.
