Brad Rooksby-Help Fund Back Surgery

Donation protected
Hello friends, family and colleagues.  I am setting up this campaign for a co-worker who has now become a good friend; Brad Rooksby.  He is one of the most positive, caring and genuine people I know and his struggle over the past 5 years is heart wrenching.

Brad was in a car accident in 2012, caused by a driver who ran a red light, which has left him battling with severe and debilitating back and neck issues ever since.  He has tried to work through his pain and limited mobility since the accident but in February 2016 he was forced to take disability leave as the chronic pain had become overwhelming.   He has lumbar and cervical spine issues and 4 herniated, deteriorated disks.  He can no longer sit or stand for any length of time and now requires a cane to walk.

Brad has explored all non-surgical resources at his disposal; physiotherapy, inversion therapy, chiropractic services, acupuncture, massage, cortisone injections between the vertebrae and radio frequency ablations for the past 5 years and has spent over $30,000 of his own money, with no improvement or pain relief.  His situation is too severe and requires surgical intervention for any permanent solution. His only surgical option in Canada is spinal disk fusion which will not provide the movement needed to return to work or provide a full and independent life.

A tireless search to find a better solution for his future produced the ONZ clinic in Hattingen, Germany  who reviewed his medical file and has provided hope, in an option with an anticipated 95% success rate; artificial disk replacement surgery. He will need 4 disks replaced; 2 in the neck and 2 in his lower back.  The cost will be $125,000 +.  This includes travel to and from Germany and 4 weeks post operative care overseas.

Brad made the flight to Germany and had his surgery on June 28th, 2017.  He is doing well and the surgery has been deemed a success though he has several months of dedicated physiotherapy and rehabilitation to recover and regain his active, pain free lifestyle once again.  This life saving solution required a great deal of money; money he does not have and which needed to be paid up front before any surgery was performed.

I am setting up this Go Fund Me page for Brad because I know how desperate he is to have his life back; he has gone to very great lengths getting the finances required by securing multiple different loans, while also depleting his savings account, RRSP contributions, and overextending his chequing account and line of credit
to make this surgery happen.  At this point Brad does not have a plan or method by which he will repay these debts but he went ahead with the surgery as this was the only possible hope he had to change his situation.  His only desire is to work and enjoy a future without pain and with full mobility to live and provide for himself.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support for Brad.  Any donation you can provide is truly a blessing and will help offset the surgery and recovery costs which will be a daunting task for him to pay back. Funds donated through this page will be accessed directly by Brad himself.
