Baby Gavins Heart Surgery Fund
Hi my name is Barbara Spraggins and my husband is Erik Spraggins. We were blessed with our first child on 10/12/2014. Our son Gavin was born prematurely at 36 weeks and has a heart condition HLHS that will require him to have at least 3 open heart surgeries and he does not have a functioning spleen and will have to be on antibiotics for the rest of his life. The first heart surgery they are planning to do when he is two or three months old, the second when he is around 6 months old and the third after he is a year old. He is currently two weeks old. We're not sure what all the insurance will cover and we will have to travel back and forth for multiple Drs visits and check ups between each surgery. Plus expenses while he stays in the hospital to recovery after each surgery a minimum of two weeks after each one. Any donations to help with these expenses will be greatly appreciated as both me and my husband will be out of work during his surgery and in hospital recovery time. Thank you and God Bless!+ Read More
Gavin has been making good progress since his surgery. He is 9 months old now and up to 13lbs. So far his heart is doing well. We have had some challenges with his feedings and weight gain but we are working closely with his nutritionist to fix these minor set backs. Gavin now has two teeth and is saying a few words. He is making good strides forward with is physical developments and with the help of his physical therapist and Early Intervention we hope that he will close the gap on his physical delays. We will be going back this Friday to his cardiologist and he will be scheduling Gavin a heart cath in the up coming weeks. The results of this test will determine if and when Gavin will be going back to surgery. So please keep us in your prayers. Thank you!
Gavin is going back into surgery this morning to get a G-tube. His feeding by mouth has not be as good as it needed to be for him to get the nutrition he needs to grow and be healthy. So they are putting the g-tube in so we can have a way to successfully feed Gavin while he gets bigger and strong so he can have enough strength to suck his bottle and breathe the same time. Hopefully after this surgery we will be on our way to a full recovery and have time to prepare for his next open heart surgery. Thank to everyone for your prayers and support !
Gavin came through his first surgery with flying colors. Drs were very happy the surgery went better than they thought. We have a a few post surgery hiccups but over all doing pretty good. Right lungs is our main issue at the present time. Mucus build up is a little more than what it needs to be and is causing lung not to open as much as it should. Respiratory therapist is working with Gavin every two hours to try to get his lung open and clear. Thank you for all your prayers and support during Gavin's first surgery. Now we just have to get through recovery and prepares for the next two surgeries.
