Andora Ione Heacock, born at Childrens Hospital of Denver, Colorado, April 11, 2016, has been in NICU since birth because of complications due to CDH (Congenital diaphragmatic hernia,) a birth defect of the diaphragm.
Her first surgery was successful, repositioning her heart and intestines and esophagus, however, subsequent surgery to open her airway, and esophagus so that she may swallow (Tracheomalacia) has not alleviated Andora's difficulty breathing and ability to swallow.
The family and doctors at Childrens Hospital planned to air transport Andora to a lower altitude (Denver is one mile high) for another surgery, a Tracheostomy, to be performed at University of Michigan Research Hospital NICU, where her chances would be better for surgery and a successful recovery due to the lower altitude (sea level).
Her parents, Heather and John Heacock, moved up to Michigan last Saturday, just to find out that their insurance denied coverage for the air transport, saying there was no medical reason to transport her.
Nevertheless, friends and family, and all Baby Andora's supporters of their "Warrior Princess" joined together with the family in their appeals process, and within a week, through all the prayers, sharing of her story, and donations, Andora was flown to Children's Hospital in Michigan in Ann Arbor, and is reunited with her family!
So now with our prayers answered for air transport, we will redirect the funds you have all given toward support of Baby Andora's care and medical needs that insurance will not cover.
