Dearest family and friends,
On Oct. 1st little Baby Jack Groen came into this world in a blaze of glory 8 weeks ahead of schedule via emergency c-section. Jack was born 11:23pm, weighing 2.11 lbs & 15.75 inches and life flighted to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He was born with an Tracheoesophageal Fistula and Esophageal Atresia (TEF EA) in short, an abnormal connection between his trachea, esophagus and stomach. He also has a small hole in his heart and a small issue with his urethra that will be fixed with a surgery. Currently Jack is also on a ventilator. He had his first surgery for his TEF, repairing his trachea fistula and is being fed through an IV and a feeding tube that was surgically placed in his stomach. He has a few more surgeries in his near future. The next one being the repair of the EA once he weighs 3+ lbs and is about 6 weeks old.
Ashlee has been able to hold Jack skin to skin for an hour at a time a couple of times. This can be very stressful for preemies (and mom) and not always tolerated but Jack is giving them a beautiful gift!
Jack is at the beginning of a long journey ahead but we know each day he is gaining strength to carry him through each day. The experts are guessing a minimum of 8+ weeks in the NICCU at CHLA. Ashlee and Kenny travel to LA everyday from Ventura to be by Jack’s side. Jack is in the BEST care possible but their hearts break a little every time they say goodbye. Until they hear the magical words, “He gets to go home!’ their faith and love will give them the strength they need to carry on. We LOVE you all and it is truly amazing how the power of your love feels, we could not be more blessed as, God is truly a miracle worker through each of you.
