Grandmothers Get Superpowers
The Animated Series by
Z. Budapest and Friends

Do you enjoy stories where women get the life they want and and the wonders they deserve?
Imagine two magical old women — Baba Boogie and Baba Zsuzsi — who inhabit the realm of Ether, where there are no distances and no impossibilities.
Baba Boogie and the Berkeley Broads is an animation show for grown ups who enjoy subversive political satire with an edge.

Baba Boogie is a magical character who is very old.  She longs for rest. All her friends have passed on. But she cannot die until she finds like minded women in the new generation to receive her super powers.
Baba Zsuzsi on the other hand, loves being alive, and doesn't want to live in Ether. She wants to live on the planet. Baba Zsuzsi is still learning how to live independently from her powers.

The Berkeley Broads are activists who have a nasty encounter with the police. They call out to the Ether for help and when Baba Boogie responds, she finds a marvelous group of candidates to teach.

Follow Baba Boogie, Baba Zsuzsi and their friends as they rescue the Berkeley Broads and bring superpowers to Grandmothers through the universe.

The funding from this Indiegogo campaign will be used to pay the costs of the for the pilot episode, including the animators, videographers, artists and post production crew.

Introducing myself:
HELLO!  My name is Zsuzsanna Budapest, writer, Goddess organizer.  When I was a little girl in Hungary  I had a Babszinhaz,  a play theater were I put on plays with puppets for my little friends. Later in my teens I have  visited the professional Babszinhaz in the city, and was a admiring fan of the art form.

My mother was a ceramic artist and sculptor, and she supported my passion for dialogues and plots and dances. As I grew up I switched my attention to reading books, and I wanted to become a writer. But the love for theater never went away.

I had a long time as an adult to build my passion to use writing to influence my times. When I became a feminist I realized that what was missing from feminist movement  was spirituality. Recalling my magical upbringing, I knew that we need to find and unearth the Goddesses to give women back their past.

Nobody can grow without knowing where they came from. So I started the Goddess Movement. I know, its now everywhere. Blessed be on that. But I saw what was missing and created our alternative religion for women to celebrate ourselves as the Goddess. Women need the Goddess so we can feel our integrity.

As I have come to my Crone years, I have started thinking about how the archetypes of Grandmothers simply died out in our media and no new ones had emerged. This is a kind of cultural  'shunning" the women in their old age .
A kind of invisibility which renders grandmothers unimportant in the eyes of the collective  consciousness. Yet we yearn for our grannies.

There are a lot of folklore and mythology from central Europe about magical grandmothers, who reward diligent girls with riches and lazy ones with tar and feathers.  There is Baba Yaga who uses a cauldron for transportation. many many more magical creatures and tales all had grannies in it who had superpowers.

I wanted to create a tale of Babas who intermingle with the radical women from Berkeley in their later years. Intermingle it with flashbacks to Berkeley political conflicts.
Jakkie Moore is my artist  partner,  who  lives in Norway, winters in Bulgaria. We never met because we need money to come together, but we had been networking thanks to the Internet.
Her characters are funny with a whimsical humor which I enjoy. Music as well we treat as a character, and it ads to the  impact of the feeling we create with our images and stories.

I would like us to create first 3 minute long pieces, then lead into longer presentations.

Animation is the freest of all art forms. Our edgy stories, political satire, will be refreshing. My audience is the Boomers now aging, and young ones who they raise. It will be animation for grown ups, something to watch after you come home from work.

After having published 14 books on Women's Spirituality, nine of them still in print, I like to try my hand and mind and sense of humor on the celebration of old women...
