Tree Town Batik Theft recovery fund

Baba and Jerusha have always dreamed of one day owning their own business.

*In 2003 Tree Town Batiks was started. At first it seemed like a hobby to them . Once people saw their work and purchased them, they felt inspried to create more and continued on with the business. They both worked part time and full time to make ends meet while still making the Batiks. They would take time off from work to sell at festivals and art markets.

*This continued until 2008 when they had to move from Michigan to Oregon because of the crashing economy. From there they had to start completely over and find jobs. They still continued to barely hold onto the business because of financial reasons.

*From 2009-2013 Baba worked at the Portland Zoo and Jerusha was a full time teacher all the while still making Batiks. They were still trying to keep the dream alive and hold onto what little business they had left.

*In 2014 Baba took a chance and started to sell the Batiks at the Portland Saturday Market and that was a turning point for their business. The market was such a great venue that in June 2015 Jerusha quit her 17 years of teaching to only make Batiks with Baba. Their dream had finally come true!

Now that the business was starting to grow at the Portland Saturday market, on Etsy,  Facebook, Instagram, and through an overwhelming reponse from our Limbo Head Family, it was time to get a bigger space to make more Batiks.

For the next couple years Jerusha and Baba continued to save  up money and worked long  hours to fill orders as well as build their inventory for the Market.

The Portland Saturday Market was going to open in it's 44th season starting on March 4th. Jerusha and Baba were ready to sell and it felt good to finally have enough inventory for a full booth display.

The dream came to a crashing reality when theives broke into their car Thursday night, on March 2nd and stole 2 large totes full of handmade Batiks. One bin filled with all women's clothiong (dresses, t-shirts, skirts, ect.) and another tote filled with childrens t-shirts. They stole many other items needed for their booth as well.
In total they stole over $10,000 worth of product.

Many people have asked us how they can help. That's when someone suggessted a GOFUND me.

All the money donated will go to building up our inventory/business again, and be saved for purchasing a bigger shop for our business.

We have already had so many people share their concerns and loving thoughts with us. We would be so grateful for any donations you can spare.

Thank you
Baba & Jerusha
