On August 29th, 2015 a great friend, son, and Charleston native was involved in a tragic accident. While enjoying a beautiful Saturday on the boat with some friends, LJ dove off the bow misjudging the depth of the water. With the help of fast acting friends and Charleston County EMS, LJ was rushed to MUSC to begin treatment for a fractured C4 and C5 vertebrae. This injury left LJ paralyzed from the arm pits down.
LJ's once seemingly normal life has turned into a long road of strenuous recovery. As a former Corporal in the US Marine Corp with overseas combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, LJ faces his toughest fight yet. Now more than ever LJ and his parents Michelle, Larry Smoak Sr, and Angie Smoak need your support and prayers. Let's come together as a community and show LJ our support as he has and would again do for us.
