The Great Ethiopian Run

On the 17th November 2019 the Essilor Team will be taking part in The Great Ethiopian Run 10k, in Addis Ababa. This is now the biggest road race in Africa, with last year attracting over 44,000 runners worldwide! The conditions in Ethiopia are going to be especially tough, not only will it be hot, but Addis Ababa is also one of the world's highest capitals, located 2,400m above sea level, making running a 10k a significant challenge!

The money raised will be going towards the Vision Aid Overseas: Support  A School Initiative. For Millions of children in the developing world, a pair of glasses could change everything. 80% of what a child learns is processed through the visual system yet children worldwide struggle to learn at school simply because they do not have access to the vision correction they need to study. Essilor has partnered with Vision Aid Overseas to bring much needed eye care and glasses into the classroom so that every child in supported areas can get the eye care they need to see clearly. Through the Support a School Initiative, Essilor will be ensuring that each and every child at supported schools will receive an eye test and if needed, a pair of glasses to correct their vision. The Essilor team are aiming to achieve the target of £10,000 which will go towards supporting 2 schools in Ethiopia.
