Amanda needs our help!

Amanda Baker is a single mom and former Hancock alumni that has fallen on hard times while waiting for housing to become available. She has been living in a motel for the past two months paying a steep weekly rate while waiting on a unit to open. Unfortunately, her unit became available much later than she anticipated and she used all her earnings and savings paying for this motel so she and her daughters would not be homeless.
Amanda found out this week that a unit is ready for her on Monday, but she doesn't have the move-in fees or deposit. She only needs approximately $800 to secure permanent housing, but I put $2000 as her goal, because there are additional costs associated with moving and she could use the extra help.
We have all fallen on hard times and or are capable of doing so at anytime. I have worked in social services for ten years and I can tell you that no one is immune to needing help. Hancock alumni, family, friends.... let's help Amanda get into housing on Monday. She's a hard-working mom and could use our help. ♡

UPDATE:
A few people have asked me why I started this campaign for Amanda. Although we are Facebook friends and former schoolmates, I haven't seen her face to face in several years when I ran into her at a store in my neighborhood. Other than that, I would say that we are acquaintances that like and comment on each other's posts from time to time. We weren't even in the same grade and although we chatted on the bus on the way home from school ocassionally, we never hung out together otherwise.

My obvious reason for rallying help for Amanda is that she is a former schoolmate who needs a little help to get back on her feet and, of course, it feels good to help others. Besides that, all those years ago (20+!) I was bullied and practically tortured on the bus by two boys. One of the boys took turns hitting me and other kids on the bus on the head with a heavy text book, made sexually innapropriate comments to me and said insulting things about my looks and my body. It was humiliating.

Amanda was the only person who stood up for me...and she was 2 or 3 years younger than me. I was always relieved when Amanda rode the bus, because I knew those boys would leave me alone. So, what I know about Amanda today and what I knew back then, is that she is a kind caring, and decent person who deserves help trying to create a better life for her and her daughters. The small effort I put into this makes me feel happy, so stop thanking me, Amanda! Thank you...from me. ♡
