Skagit Art Preschool Phase 3

Dear friends and family of Skagit Art Preschool (SAP),

Our second year of providing quality preschool has been delightfully successful and we are on the threshold of planning our third year. Year three introduces Phase 3 of our business plan. Phase 3 includes specialty preschool licensing through the Washington State Department of Child, Youth and Families.

This week the new Fire Alarm system is completed! Testing the system has been exciting for the afternoon kids and staff. Soon the Fire Alarm will be through all the inspections which will update the Certificate of Occupancy for the building and preschool. We are so grateful to St. Paul's Episcopal Church for the hard work and fundraising that they have done on their side to furnish the building with a Fire Alarm. We feel safer already.

Without a Fire Alarm, SAP was not able to open as a Non-Profit 501 (c)3  and therefore SAP opened operating as a Sole Proprietor in 2017. In October 2018 we started the transition process to a Non-Profit 501 (c)3, at the time the Fire Alarm was begun. At this time we are writing our Articles of Incorporation and in June will elect a SAP Parent Board.  Until we are fully incorporated, we are unable to fundraise as a regular non-profit school, which is why SAP is launching our 2019 GoFundMe.

The business transition from Sole Proprietor to Non-Profit has been complicated and SAP sought council with BC Accounting who helped us through the red tape and has completed our taxes. BC Accounting are mentoring us through the financial process, and preparing our financials for approval for licensing and incorporation.

The good news is that SAP broke even financially our first two years in a row!! Additionally, SAP was able to provide a quality preschool experience for over 100 Skagit County families, jobs for 6 teachers and this year, a position for a half time Office Manager. So far so good. Enrollment is up, the center is full for the 2019-2020 school year with a waitlist and our teachers are Top Notch.

In order for SAP into enter Phase 3 we need financial help from our "Village" because we are facing financial need. With new state requirements and the licensing fees, shifting summer enrollment, and the growing pains of a successful, but quickly growing start-up business we have to make sure that the classrooms, teachers, and children have what they need.

Please help us support SAP by making a donation. All donations are genuinely appreciated and go directly to continuing the quality preschool experience and safety of our children.

Yours in service,
