Aztlan Grad Scholarship May 2018

Hello Raza! Aztlan Graduation is a student production meant to celebrate our graduation in a family fiesta environment. This club is open to any and all majors on campus, it is run by a cabinet of Senior undergraduate Students that changes every semester after we graduate. The purpose of the cabinet and its general body members is to fundraise for the day of this event. It is open to all regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender expression, sexuality, etc. We understand that the university experience is as diverse as our lived experiences.

We acknowledge that your triumphs should be celebrated the way you like, with the people and mentors that made this great step possible. Aztlan Graduation gives you the opportunity to have a more intimate graduation ceremony along with your family/mentors as special guests, and a special day full of entertainments, food and much more.

Aztlan Graduation and Scholarship Committee is the official Chicano/a Studies Graduation Committee and was founded in 1969 as the Chicano/a Graduation Committee. We were founded in order to fulfill the needs of Chicano/Central American/Latino students on campus. We are a student-run organization, which means that we, the students, make all of the decisions regarding the graduation/reception ceremony. We raise funds, not only for the graduation, but also to give out scholarships to CSUN students.

At the graduation ceremony, graduates are encouraged to wear clothing of their cultural origin as a way to honor their families, ancestors, and heritage. This isn't mandatory and they may wear whatever they choose, but graduating in cultural clothing is encouraged as a way to give tribute to those who have gotten them this far. Graduates will also be given a plaque and a certificate of participation from Aztlan Grad.

This is a student run organization with the support of the Department of Chicana/o Studies at California State University-Northridge.

As part of the mission of this club and the department, we aim to enable and support higher education. We see this as one of many steps to the success of students. The purpose of this campaign is to raise $1,500 to divide into 3 $500 scholarships that we will award to:

-Incoming Freshman students
-Undocumented and/or DACA Students of all class levels
-Graduating Senior Students

This scholarship fund is limited to current California State University-Northridge students of any major. The funds will be used for educational or education related expenses (housing, transportation, food, books, etc.) and we will post photos of the winners on here.

We would like to share with you all the success of our triumphs and would like to thank you for your help with supporting students in excelling at higher education.
