Hola, mi nombre es Julio Longa tengo 67 años, resido en Venezuela y esta es mi historia; soy profesor universitario de ingeniería desde hace más de 40 años. Muchas generaciones de profesionales han pasado por mis salones de clase haciéndome participe de su formación y brindándome la enorme satisfacción de verlos triunfar tanto en mi país como en el exterior.
Todos los que me conocen saben que siempre he tenido una buena actitud hacia la vida y las adversidades, y que a pesar de las circunstancias educar va más allá de ser mi profesión, es mi pasión.
Siempre he contado con muy buena salud, pero en mi último chequeo médico anual realizado en febrero de 2020, me fue detectada una anomalía en la glándula prostática, por lo cual fue necesario realizar una resonancia magnética, cuyo resultado no fue concluyente para mi diagnóstico, siendo así imprescindible practicar una biopsia transrectal de próstata; procedimiento médico que tuvo que ser postergado debido a la paralización casi completa del país, esto siendo consecuencia de la pandemia y no fue hasta finales del mes de Septiembre (casi 6 meses después) que pudo ser realizado el estudio.
El análisis patológico de las muestras tomadas determinó que padezco Hiperplasia prostática grado I-II; lo que conocemos como cáncer de próstata. Está demás decir que mi vida corre peligro por lo que es necesario su remoción y un tratamiento de radiación posterior a la cirugía.
Como es conocido, Venezuela esta atravesando por la mayor crisis económica de su historia, con una hiperinflación; a lo que se le suma la crisis generada por la emergencial de salud mundial, acabando así con la capacidad financiera de todos los que aun residimos en este país, agravándose aun más mi situación ya que no cuento con los recursos monetarios para poder luchar contra esta indeseable enfermedad.
Antes de realizar mi cirugía, necesito someterme a una serie de exámenes adicionales (gammagrama óseo y tomografía axial computarizada de pelvis), esto con el fin de determinar el grado de propagación de las células cancerígenas en mi organismo. Dichos estudios médicos son realizados con equipos especializados y reactivos especiales que actualmente escasean en el país y encarecen significativamente su realización.
Dejando a plena luz la situación que estoy atravesando, recurro a ustedes y les pido de todo corazón su ayuda; su aporte económico y su colaboración difundiendo mi historia para poder lograr lo mas pronto posible mi cirugía y tratamiento con el que pueda reestablecer mi salud, permitiéndome así continuar mi labor de educar, compartir mis conocimientos, experiencia y anécdotas a todos mis alumnos con el mismo trato de cordialidad, camaradería y respeto que me han caracterizado desde el primer momento que comencé a ejercer mi profesión como profesor.
De todo corazón les agradezco a todos los que desde un principio han estado conmigo acompañándome en esta lucha. No será un camino fácil de recorrer; pero sé que, a través de mi fe, mi buena actitud y el apoyo de mis seres queridos podré salir adelante y superar esta enfermedad. Hello, my name is Julio Longa. I am 67 years old, I live in Venezuela and this is my story; I have been an university professor of engineering for more than 40 years. Many generations of professionals have passed through my classrooms making me participate in their training and giving me the enormous satisfaction of seeing them succeed both in my country and abroad.
Everyone who knows me knows that I have always had a good attitude towards life and adversity, and that despite the circumstances, educating goes beyond being my profession, it is my passion.
I have always had very good health, but in my last annual medical check-up carried out in February 2020, an abnormality in the prostate gland was detected, for which it was necessary to perform an MRI, the result of which was not conclusive for my diagnosis. Thus, it was essential to perform a transrectal prostate biopsy; Medical procedure that had to be postponed due to the almost complete paralysis of the country, this being a consequence of the pandemic and it was not until the end of September (almost 6 months later) that the study could be carried out.
The pathological analysis of the samples taken determined that I suffer from grade I-II prostatic hyperplasia; what we know as prostate cancer. Needless to say, my life is in danger, so its removal and radiation treatment after surgery is necessary.
As is known, Venezuela is going through the greatest economic crisis in its history, with hyperinflation; which added to the crisis generated by the world wide health crisis, have thus ended the financial capacity of all of us who still reside in this country, making my situation even worse since I do not have the monetary resources to be able to fight against this undesirable disease.
Before performing my surgery, I need to undergo a series of additional tests (bone scan and pelvic computed axial tomography), this in order to determine the degree of spread of cancer cells in my body. These medical studies are carried out with specialized equipment and special reagents that are currently in short supply in the country and significantly increase their cost.
Leaving in full light the situation that I am going through, I turn to you and ask with all my heart for your help; your economic contribution and your collaboration spreading my story to be able to achieve my surgery and treatment as soon as possible with which I can reestablish my health, thus allowing me to continue my work of educating, sharing my knowledge, experience and anecdotes to all my students with the same I treat of cordiality, camaraderie and respect that have characterized me from the first moment that I began to practice my profession as a teacher.
With all my heart I thank all those who from the beginning have been with me accompanying me in this fight. It will not be an easy road to travel; but I know that through my faith, my good attitude and the support of my loved ones I will be able to move forward and overcome this disease.
