My beautiful niece Ayla has been going through pure hell over the past couple of months. She has been diagnosed with an incurable autoimmune disease called Systematic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), otherwise known simply as “Lupus”. Lupus is an inflammatory disease that results in the immune system attacking its own tissues. She's in constant pain as her body tries to fight off this disease. Joint pain and flare ups leave her almost unable to walk.
Lupus has caused the following conditions as well.
Lupus Nephritis - Complete Renal (Kidney) Failure
Hypertensive uncontrollable Blood Pressure
Thrombotic Microangiopathy - Blood Disorder
Press- which has caused a Brain Seizure
Fluid on Heart and Lungs
Hair Loss
Severe Joint Pain
Incapacitating migraine type headaches
Butterfly Skin Rash on her face- which is a visual indicator of Lupus
Ayla’s treatments have included debilitating chemotherapy, a kidney biopsy, multiple weekly dialysis treatments, three blood transfusions, and seven plasmapheresis treatments. She is currently on 15 different hardcore medicines to stabilize her blood pressure, reduce the pains and to stabilize how the lupus is attacking her little body. Ayla has four more chemo treatments scheduled, but the remaining amount of dialysis treatments are currently unknown.
Money is very tight for Ayla’s family. Her mother’s is a single mom of two that is currently in college and working multiple jobs to make ends meet.
Many families, friends and loved ones have asked how they can help during this difficult time. This page was set up for them to come together and ease the stress of not being able to school this year the stress of the loss of wages and to help with her on going medical costs.
The money raised will go towards:
Ambulance fees of $1800. She was recently transported from her home to Cardinal Glennon in St. Louis and needed medical attention en route.
Past Emergency Room Visits $1500
Alternative Medicine Treatments $2000
Including magnetic therapy, acupuncture and multiple blood treatments
Plus, who knows what bills will be faced once she has been released to go home after such a lengthy stay.
Ayla is surrounded by loved ones in the area 24 hours a day since she has been admitted. Multiple family members drive from all over the Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Alton, and Belleville areas to be with her while her mother is at one of her jobs or attending class. Her mom hasn’t slept or showered in her own home since her admittance to Cardinal Glennon. She has been sleeping on a blow-up bed and showering at the hospital.
