This sweet little girl named Selam will turn two years old on 10/16/2018. Due to a lack of oxygen during a difficult delivery, she was intubated and had a seizure after birth. After 21 days of hospitalization, she was finally discharged, but she suffered brain damage and has Cerebral Palsy (CP), epilepsy, and she can’t suck or swallow. Her mom decided to take her Bangkok, Thailand, for better treatment. For 15 days baby Selam underwent multiple different therapies every day in Bangkok. Then, suddenly, she developed a tonic conic seizure and had to be admitted to the ER. The ER doctor said she is also anemic because she is not getting enough nutrition since she cannot eat solid food (she only drinks milk). So, one problem led to another problem. A GERD X-Ray was done and the doctor recommended fundoplication to insert a feeding tube.
While trying to decide whether to move forward with the surgery. They recently discovered that stem cell therapy is a new treatment in the CP world, that can lead to huge improvements. Almost all CP recipients are literally having life changing results from these injections, allowing them to accomplish physical tasks that had never before been possible.
Unfortunately, these injections are very expensive and only available in a few locations. Luckily, they have them in Bangkok. The parents fully believe that this is the best treatment they can give to their little girl. They are hopeful that the treatment will help repair the brain damage that caused her CP, allowing her to do things as simple as sit, stand, swallow, walk independently, and have her speech improved to a point where she can actually tell us what she wants or needs, get off some of her medications, and not have to miss out or be limited in life due to her disability.
It melts our heart that they don't have this kind of money. Selam’s mom and dad want their daughter to have a normal life so one day she can live independently. The doctor said stem cell therapy for cerebral palsy is the cure.
