Awagu 's Family needs us!

Donation protected
At the age of 13, Awagu left her home in Ethiopia with a friend, in search of help from an uncle when the communists took over the country. She feared for her father's safety, since he was in the Ethiopian army. They walked for 17 days to the Sudan border where their journey ended in a refugee camp in Sudan.  On the way she joined with other children, younger and older, who kept her going. At the border, many of these children were picked up and taken to  a child camp, where Awagu heard they would be trained as child solders. She and a few others escaped. They walked to a Red Cross camp in Sudan, where they were safe. Soon she learned that while she had survived, others hadn't.
Awagu survived in the refugee camp for four years, relying on her wits and strong will, before being sponsored through the Red Cross to come to the US.  With the help of her sponsor, Awagu started a new life here.  She worked hard, married, had four children, battled rheumatoid arthritis for years, and made a life for herself and her family. She has given generously of her heart and soul to all who know her. Her home is always warm and welcoming. Awagu never forgets where she came from or how she got where she is. She faces every obstacle with faith and the belief she will prevail.

That belief is now being tested. Two years ago Awagu was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought hard, and suffered mightily. The chemo was brutal due to her rheumatoid arthritis, but she fought and survived. She was declared cancer-free a year later. Now, only a few months later, Awagu has suddenly been diagnosed with cancer of the spine. This will be her toughest battle yet.

This is a family in need. Awagu has missed a year of work due to her health issues. Still trying to recover from the medical costs of her past cancer treatment, on top of the lost income while she couldn't work , and facing the probability of being disabled for some time to come, this family needs funds to help defray her massive medical costs, and to help support her and her family family while she is being treated. It will be a long and difficult road to recovery. Please support Awagu's family while her family supports her.
