Unofficial NY Campaign for New Bagpipes
$1,768 of $1,500 goal
Hello fellow HONY readers!
My name is Max, I live in Brooklyn, NY, and like you, have been following HONY for years. The immediate response for the 6/28/14 HONY story of a man who had his bagpipes stolen and was subsequently jailed for selling teddy bears was overwhelming. So, we've decided to come together and buy the man some new bagpipes. The average price for bagpipes is between $1300 and $1500 dollars. Any money raised in excess will be given as a donation.
This was the caption for the June 28th HONY photo:
"I built this book cart after my bagpipes got stolen, because I couldn't afford a new set of bagpipes, and I needed to support myself. I used to sell teddy bears too. But one day last year, three undercover policeman showed up and took me to jail. It was just like a TV show-- one was dressed like a rapper, the other like a hooker, and the other like a tourist. They said you need a permit to sell manufactured goods. You're allowed to sell art, just not manufactured goods. I tried to tell them that my teddy bears were art because I dressed them and customized them. But all they said was: 'You're going to jail.' I had to spend 2 days in jail. The judge threw out the case. But they never gave me back my teddy bears."

So happy to help! Every wee bit counts!! Nothing is impossible!
Sorry--Not Malcomb; MAX!!
Great news! Thanks, Malcomb, for your persistence in seeing this project through'
Great news! You're doing a wonderful job, Max. Thank you.
I really wish you would have let donations continue past the goal point ans we could have upgraded Malcolm's Cart by paying for all his necessary Pemits so he could continue to sell his bears with out police interference. .
I feel so fortunate I was able to donate. I can't wait to read the update in the morning. Thank you, Maxim, for setting up the fund and everything else you've done to help Malcolm. This allowed a group of us to pay it forward and Malcolm will do the same by entertaining people with his music.
I think this is the most wonderful example of the fundamental good in people. I live in Dublin, Ireland and was going to donate. Well done to all who managed to do so. There is hope for the future!
Have wanted to donate but thrilled that enough money has been collected for whom we now know to be Malcolm. Please keep us posted and bless you for your efforts.
Way to go Max!!
Heyyyy Max! So excited to see you hanging at the book cart. Maybe Malcolm and his fellow would have some ideas for the remainder of the donations. They know what they need more than we do, after all. I can't imagine anyone here would say 'Ohh, it should be used for this or that and if it's not this or that, I will be very upset'. :D
Tried to make a donation but it won't allow for anymore donations. :( It would have been nice to give what ever extra to this man for any minor expenses he had.
Shawn Penso. Have a little faiths others. Anything is possible. This is a positive movement and your question is worded that it sounds like an embedded insinuation. This is so very sad for you. I am donating, the money will get where it needs to be. I know this without question. Because I have faith.
The best part is that most of the donations are $5-$10. It just shows that every $1 counts and that you don't always have to give much to make a difference!!!
You are blessed to become a blessing to others... And this is a story of one blessing being poured out because of the generosity of the heart if all who donated to reach the goal of giving back a bagpipe for this man. You people are so amazing!
Well people, if you don't want to give out $5 to a stranger, keep moving. No need to post negative comments about it. There are 60,000 likes on the picture, I am sure your skepticism won't be miss. In the past, strangers have helped me without even asking me too many questions. I do believe in karma, if this guy wanted to break everyone heart by taking the money, karma will work it ways out. But I am waiting to see an update picture though
His stand is right in front of Barnes and Nobles in Union Square. He will be so touched.
I can't wait for a follow-up to this man's story! Hopefully, we will get to see pictures of him when he gets his new bagpipes! You are all so awesome!!!

Sorry but I don't have a lot of extra money lying around. I would love to donate and am not trying to be negative. Just want to make sure my money goes where it's supposed to.
Thanks Maxim! I so very much love that you're doing this!! So excited for that sweet man!
