Inoperable tumor -La Porte HS student Audrey Lowe

At the beginning of her senior year, Audrey was planning a productive, successful future for herself-now she unsure of tomorrow.  Audrey is on her own for admirable reasons.  Please help her!

Audrey was recently diagnosed with having a large tumor near her spine. This exceptionally rare tumor had been causing pain and numbness in her right leg.  Physicians knew it needed to be removed so they scheduled her surgery. While in surgery, the medical staff was shocked to discover it had grown into and wrapped itself into the nerves of her lower spinal chord.  While the tumor is not cancerous at this time, it could become so in the future.  Removing it meant she would lose usage of her right leg, perhaps more. Leaving it meant uncertainty about the tumor becoming cancerous and/or continuing to grow and cause problems. The surgeon felt this decision needed to be made by  Audrey.

Upon awakening, after receiving the  news and difficult choice, Audrey’s right leg was both disturbingly numb and purple. She received an MRI, and a doctors told her she had a large blood clot in her leg. They felt they didn’t have the expertise to treat her, so she was sent from Goshen to Indianapolis.  

When Audrey arrived at the hospital in Indianapolis, she was told she had two additional blood clots. She had emergency surgery to remove all of them.  Unfortunately, doctors could not close her wound due to extreme swelling. She was told the wound would need to remain open and heal in the hospital. 

Doctors also informed Audrey that the tumor was unusual and that none of them have ever seen anything of the like.  Audrey’s future prognosis is unknown at their time. Her medial bills are outstanding and will continue to pile up every day.   Audrey does have government insurance, but there are many medical bills that won’t be covered, not to mention Audrey’s ability to work in the future is unknown. 

She is currently on her own and must tackle this extraordinary life challenges by herself. This fundraising is all to help Audrey. She needs and deserves help. Please consider helping this extraordinary young woman to have a meaningful life.

Authentic, strong, caring, empathetic, inspiring, deserving- these words all describe Audrey. I’ve known this wonderful young lady since she was 11-years old as her teacher.  She now needs and deserves all the help of those that know her and those that haven’t yet had that honor. 

Audrey has just taken the reigns of her life and is facing terrible fear and uncertainty.  If you cannot help monetarily, please help by sharing this post as she deserves a leg up and a chance of becoming who she was meant to be in this world;  Free of her fear from medical debt and the constraints of her terrible injuries.  She wishes to contribute to the lives of others and I request your help to alleviate her fear and grant her assistance as you are able.  This is a pay it forward plea.
