Audrey Rossi Medical Expense Fund
Our collegue and friend, Audrey Rossi has been diagnosed, at age 25, with stage four adenocarcinoma colorectal cancer (or as she calls it... booty cancer). Her treatment will consist of chemotherapy for three months at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore followed by surgery to remove the cancer which has spread to her colon, liver and lymph nodes. Audrey and her fiance, Andy, will be spending the next several months traveling back and fourth from Wilmington to Baltimore for her treatment and fully intend to kick cancer's a$$.
Audrey's news hit us hard. She's one of a kind; a smart, quick witted, young woman. And many of us have wondered how we can help. Baltimore hotel costs, gas, and medical bills all add up. Let's help alleviate some of this unnecessary stress so Audrey and Andy can focus on winning their battle against cancer.
To keep up with Audrey's story, she is working on a blog dedicated to her fight with "booty cancer." Check it out at: Audrey's Blog
"Update for friends and family: I am having surgery on Tuesday to remove the right side of my liver (sections 5, 6, 7 & 8 for any nerds out there). My rectal surgeon will also reverse Stomeo [yay to functioning *****!] during this procedure. Unfortunately, the liver embolization procedure I had a few weeks ago did not do a whole lot to insight growth in sections 4a and 4b of my liver - my liver was just too damaged from chemo to respond well. Nevertheless, my liver surgeon is confident enough to proceed with this surgery. The ultimate goal is to clear my liver of cancer.... This is a big one. I’m scared, but I’m keeping my head up despite the howling wolf inside me. If you’re feeling generous, send me some love and good vibes on the morning of 8/7. All of your love and support really helped me get through some scaries (swipe right) after my last partial liver resection/proctectomy. Love you all "
In light of this big day, let's wear blue again tomorrow to support Audrey. And always, please donate or share her gofundme page on social media.
Audrey is amazing. Her only request, since beginning her battle with cancer, has been for those who are able, to spend time in a loving kindness meditation the morning of her surgery. Loving kindness is simply a practice of opening your heart to others. There are many ways to focus your thoughts during this practice, the one that resonates with me is: may you be safe, may you be happy, may you be healthy and may you be at ease. Or, a colleague, Christine Grott, shared a simple prayer, I “hold Audrey in the Light.” To hold a person in the Light, is to imagine them being held in God’s loving presence and offer prayers and love for them. The gist is to spend time thinking about Audrey and sending her love and good wishes.
I posted a sample guided meditation below. But, all that is needed is for those who are able to spend a few quiet minutes at 7am on Tuesday (the start of her surgery) thinking of Audrey. Imagine her wrapped in love and recovering quickly from surgery. OR if meditation or prayer is not something in your wheel house, Audrey has asked that we visualize her wrapped in the color blue (which is the official color of colon cancer awareness ). Let's all wear blue on Tuesday and show our support! If you feel inclined, post a picture of you in your blue and share a note of well wishes for Audrey!
Thanks for reading through this meandering note...
