In Memory of Audrey Grace Worden

Donation protected
We have had so many people ask what they could do to help support Wayne and Kelley in this time. Funds raised here will go to help cover medical expenses associated with Kelley's month-long hospital stay, Audrey's birth and her burial. Any funds leftover after expenses are paid will be donated to the United Methodist Ecumenical Campus Ministry, home of Reverend Colleen, who has done so much to support Wayne and Kelley during this experience.

From Wayne & Kelley:

This is the story of Audrey Grace, our beautiful baby girl taken back to heaven the day we were given to meet her. In September, when our family found out we were going to have a baby, never did we think it would end as it did, but we're so very thankful for the time we had with her.

At our 20 week growth scan we were told the pregnancy was not going according to plan and was later diagnosed with IUGR with signs of a chromosomal disorder, as well as low amniotic fluid, which made it impossible to find out the severity.

By week 30 we had several ups and downs, however due to a lack of growth, Kelley was admitted to Crouse Hospital in Syracuse and was told 2 weeks maximum before Audrey would be delivered. Our strong willed daughter thought otherwise, making it all the way to 34 weeks and getting her weight up to 1 pound 12 ounces before deciding it was time. All the doctors were very positive on her future as most babies with IUGR, especially females, thrive after delivery so we were very cautiously optimistic.

The day came, and at 12:12PM on Wednesday, April 1, plenty of April Fools' Day jokes were made as the c-section went very well, and we got to see our daughter before she was whisked away to the NICU to get her lungs working and to analyze the extent of her disability. At first sight, she had several fingers that were fused together as well as some foot deformations, however those were cosmetic, and all we could notice was how much hair she had.

Post surgery, we were kept in a recovery room where Kel was beginning to get feeling back in her lower body and grandparents were very proud to be there for her. Then, everything changed when the doctor came down and told us "she's not going to make it." Audrey's lungs were not processing oxygen properly and they had very little they could do for her. At one point, 12 doctors were trying to get it figured out. Through many tears, we had to make the decision to take her off the respirator to keep her from suffering any more.

We had 4 amazing hours with Audrey after, where we got her to react to tickling her feet and hiccuping, which was a very common feeling Kelley got to feel before she was born. She was baptized by Reverend Colleen Preuninger, who also wed us, and stayed with us and prayed Audrey be taken to spend Easter with God.

Her funeral was held Monday, April 6. She was buried with her great-grandfather, who was born on December 12(12/12) ...we think they had it all planned out, as he was a farmer and wanted to have a farmer's daughter to ride in the tractor with.
