A Thirst For Change from Oceanside

Donation protected
Oceanside's PROJECT EXTRA students and the World Interest Club (WIC) have come together to raise awareness and funds for the Georgie Badiel Foundation in a project called "A Thirst for Change".

These students were inspired by the book “The Water Princess”  written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter Reynolds.  This beautiful book highlights the childhood of Georgie Badiel.  As a child in Burkina Faso, Georgie, and the other girls in her village, had to walk for miles each day to collect water. This beautiful book sheds light on this struggle that continues all over the world today,  instilling hope for a future when all children will have access to clean drinking water.

(text below from the http://georgiebadielfoundation.org/):
Georgie Badiel is from Burkina Faso. She was named Miss Burkina Faso 2003 and Miss Africa 2004. She is the co-author of "The Water Princess" and has always been a true citizen of the world. As a model she loves working in fashion; as an activist, the Georgie Badiel Foundation is her passion. As a small and focused charity, the Foundation is dedicated to helping the people of Burkina Faso gain access to clean water and a healthier life.

The Georgie Badiel Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organization that provides access to clean drinking water in Burkina Faso/Africa. The organization also builds sanitation facilities and plants trees.  Burkina Faso is a land of beauty and deprivation. Landlocked in West Africa, this desperately poor nation has more than 17 million people. Water and sanitation are a luxury to most: The British trust WaterAid estimates that at least 6,000 children under five die each year from the lack of these basic necessities.

The Georgie Badiel Foundation has a simple but clear goal: to provide access to clean water and sanitation services in the founder’s hometown of Burkina Faso.
More than 37,000 people live in Réo, and very few have get to benefit from clean water and sanitation. And the all country Burkina Faso. The Foundation is out to change that cruel reality—and that’s just a start.
