The Athenian Grill Fire Relief Fund

On Saturday April 27, the Athenian Grill sustained significant fire damage.  The Athenian Grill is not just a place get a great meal, it is a local restaurant built on the foundation of family and community and is a landmark of the Suisun City waterfront for over 20 years.

Shelly Kontogianis started the restaurant with her husband, Spiros Kontogiannis, who emigrated from Greece when he was 7. The menu was inspired by his mom’s recipes and family traditions.  Spiros died six years ago from cancer.  Since then Shelly and her daughter Yvette have continued his legacy.  Shelly lives above the restaurant so the fire not only affected the restaurant but it damaged her home.  Shelly has begun repair plans to bring the home and restaurant she loves so much back as quickly as possible.  In Shelly’s words, “There’s just a lot of heart in this building, a lot of soul, so we’re going to put it back together." In the meantime, Shelly is worried about her 23 employees. Shelly considers them family.  A number of them have worked at the restaurant since it first began.   She is concerned about the fire’s financial impact fire on them due to lost wages. 

Shelly has been very generous to the community, including donating gift certificates to the local schools and churches for decades.  We are asking the community to show their support to Shelly and her employees by donating to the Athenian Grill Fire Relief Fund.  The money donated is intended to provide financial support to Shelly and her employees while the restaurant and her home is rebuilt.
