Help these Kids in Tanzania

JAMBO FRIENDS

Since age 10 I've been obsessed with African culture.  The children, the music, the wild animals (nod to the Lion King!). I'm beyond excited that day dreams will become reality in February, as Mikey and I travel to Africa and for one week, we volunteer at Aston Vision (AV) Children's School  in Arusha, Tanzania near Mount Kilimanjaro. This school has been accredited by International Volunteer HQ .

I've done research about schools in Tanzania and after chatting with volunteers who have been to AV, or currently are there, we felt inspired to do our volunteering here and specifically, to help where we can by fundraising for their key needs: food, clean water, hygiene and other very basic items that you and I use daily.

THIRD WORLD PROBLEMS – STORIES FROM AV

About 45 kids (age 4-10) attend school at AV each day and it's home to 10 children. Their parents have died due to HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, accidents etc. Many children walk up to 4km each day to reach the school. That’s a lot of walking for a young child and due to weather and pressure on household responsibilities they can regularly miss school.

Aston was inspired to start AV after a tragic encounter in 2008. He was collecting water and found a baby in a box. Aston took the baby to the nearby village people but no one would claim or take her. He decided to care for that girl and named her Angel (pictured) and since then has cared for and schooled 42 children.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP?

The goal? Fundraise $2500 AUD to help fulfil basic human needs that these kids fear they will not have everyday - FOOD. The kids are given porridge (flour / water paste thing) to eat for lunch but it's not nutritious and for some, it's their one meal each day.

We will use the money raised to directly fund a 6 month supply of food for these 45 kids including rice, beans / lentils. To give you an idea $2000 AUD covers 6 months of lunches each day for 45 kids.

We'll also go to the Markets and personally contribute to other supplies such as Ceramic Water Filters (which costs 80,000 shillings / $50 AUD) and  hygiene supplies like soap, toothpaste etc. If there are funds left, we will stock up on other basics like cooking gas, detergent, teaching materials, reading books, bed sheets, blankets, shoes and clothes.

NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL...

Every small donation helps and matters. Whether $5, $10, $50, $100 or more, you can trust that it'll be spent DIRECTLY to support these kids. For example:
- $5 provides breakfast for 30+ kids.
- $15 provides new bedding for a child's home.
- $30 provides new educational workbooks.

I’ll be writing, photographing and filming my experiences and sharing them so you can see exactly how you have helped.

We appreciate many people give to other great charities, so we're not expecting anything but simply asking if you'd like to join in, that's great! And yes, feel free to share this link.

THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for bringing basic necessities and smiles to these kids. We appreciate it and are sincerely grateful.
