A. Principal calls me a Nigger!

I and my son's Civil Rights were violated by the Assistant Principal at his elementary school. My son is the only African American student in the entire fourth grade at Gulf Breeze Elementary in FL. During the first three weeks of school, he was called the "N" word 5 times by another student. He did not retaliate. He bottled it in and began drifting from class participation. His behavior drastically went from happy to angry about the students in his class, that did not speak up for him.

I addressed the complaint to the Assistant Principal on September 12, about this assault and abuse that had taken place while my son was in PE class. She responded by calling me the "N" word! She did not apologize immediately after or days later to me or my son for saying it abusively and offensively. She only asked him if he knew who the student was and if it were true and continued to verbally attack me in front of my son. She pointed her finger in my face to entice me into a altercation. I became unsteady with her entire demeanor and presence towards me in front of my son. So, I immediately leave the building by walking away from her without laying a finger on her.

While still neglecting to report or take action to the abuse done to my son. I could not believe the insanity of this Assistant Principal's behavior. I made a complaint to the Florida School Board of Education online and the Santa Rosa County School board Assistant Superintendent in person about her conduct. The Florida School Board of Education, due to Florida Statute, referred me to the Santa Rosa County School board to permit them to investigate. The Santa Rosa County School board Director of Elementary school spoke with me three weeks after the complaint. Requesting to hear my side in person even though my sworn statement was forwarded to their offie from the Florida Board of Education.

The incident is on video recording, however, I was denied personal access to the tape since it is the school's property.

The assistant principal admitted to using the "N" word, but she is not reprimanded for her behavior is what I was told in the meeting. At the end of the meeting and in my sworn statement I asked for a letter of apology from the Assistant Principal, and a referral to an outsource professional therapist. Since then I have not received a summary of the facts or conclusion of the incident, apology or referral to a licensed therapist.

I am deeply saddened which any parent would be. Because of the seriousness of being called the "N" word and nothing was done to the student, or the Assistant Principal, I became afraid for my son's safety. I withdrawed my son from the school to prevent any further damage. Since, the transfer to another school, the actions of the assistant principal caused severe damage. My son's grades and effort to learn in his new school has declined tremendously! He suffers a great deal of psychological  abuse symptoms.

This incident has caused my son a great deal of pain, anger, and resentment for going to school. I wish I had the money or support for a lawyer to assist us. I have never been in this situation before with a school administrator or anyone in a school environment. I emailed two lawyers for a free consultation, but so far I have not received an offer for any support to move forward. I have submitted a case for a civil rights complaint to the Pensacola District Court October 3, however, I am not sure of the estimation of hiring a lawyer against a school administrator.

The assistant principal admitted to the word she used but she is not reprimanded for her behavior.

I am a disabled single parent veteran and cannot afford to help my son recover skillfully from the neglect of reporting an assault and psychological abuse. My only hope for my son's rehabilitation is a professional therapist or outsource referral not within the school. I could use any assistance or resources on how to go about obtaining the video to show proof of her actions in a court of law.

My intentions is only to present my evidence and sworn testimony to ensure that any and every student or school official is held to a highest degree of discipline for using the "N" word to offend humiliate or cause pain to anybody within the school. Which is commonly known as an assault/abuse.

I wasn't sure of the constituents in the privacy act if I could publicly display her name.  I pray that me and my son do not have to stand up for this on our own and for legal and moral support. No child should be treated indifferently.

I will continue my efforts to allow update on the mistreatment of this Assistant Principal's unruly behavior.
