Associate Artist ACA Residency Fund

Continuing professional development for a UK female rhythm tap dancer, Annette Walker  (independent dance artist)

I've been accepted as an Associate Artist on ACA (Atlantic Center for the Arts) Residency 169 with the Master Artist, Sheron Wray, for 3 weeks in May 2018. I will be working on an individual project based around exploring different elements and ways to develop improvisational movement and rhythm in tap dance with live music, in a collaborative programme with other dancers and musicians.

So far I I've successfully raised funds for the return international flight to Orlando (LUTSF - Lisa Ullmann Travelling Scholarship Fund ), and have received financial aid towards the full cost of the residency (ACA Financial Assistance). I am raising funds to cover the balance of the total costs which include the remainder of residency fees, local transfers to and from the airport, and subsistence whilst abroad.

I'm very excited about this new professional development opportunity as a tap dancer and musician and would be very grateful for any donations that would help towards the overall cost.

Tap dancer/aerialist/actress/musician

Annette is one of the leading exponents of a new generation of tap dancers taking the stage with grace, style, and above all, rhythm. As a hoofer she often collaborates with other performers whether numbers are improvised or choreographed. Highlights include performing with the Michèle Drees Trio at Ronnie Scott's Women in Jazz, Turned on Tap at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert at Bristol's International Blues and Jazz Festival. She is passionate about teaching and sharing the history of tap dance and is queen of the Renegade Stage at the regular London Tap Jam where she occasionally swaps her tap dance shoes to join in on keys. Annette is a dynamic, agile and versatile performer who also works as a musician, actor and aerial acrobat. She has appeared in a variety of international and national shows, festivals, cabarets and concerts, and is one half of the sassy cabaret duo, The Tipton Project, where she fuses her charismatic performing skills as pianist, tap dancer, co-compère and storyteller. Her captivating performances have generated descriptive reviews such as "terrific pizzazz" and "breathtaking".
